NYP- He feels the need to speed in school zones. Brooklyn state Sen. Martin Golden is such a lead foot that he’s been nailed three times on speed cameras already this year — and now he’s trying to get those pesky recorders off the streets. Golden’s Cadillac has racked up 14 speed-camera violations in school zones since 2014, according to city records, meaning it was recorded motoring 10 mph or more over the limit. But the ex-cop who loves to promote his law-and-order bona fides has a novel solution to kicking his habit — he put forward a bill last week to pull the plug on the cameras and to fund stop signs and traffic signals instead. Just a month earlier, the Bay Ridge Republican claimed he supports the school speed-camera program and would vote to continue and expand it when it expires July 25.

Man I wonder why this dude is trying to get rid of speed cameras in that school zone. Although, as much as it pain me, I’m siding with this senator. He should really just stop speeding in school zones cause that’s super dangerous and kinda fucked up but that’s not the issue here. The issue is speed cameras and, if I have to side with a guy who is flying by elementary schools in his Cadillac in order to take down speed cameras, I’ll do it. I’ll side with a bad guy if my objective is pure. I have no problem doing that. Speed cameras are the most bullshit invention in the history of inventions. They’re not fair. It’s not a level playing field when speed cameras get involved. That’s my beef.

I remember when they first installed speed cameras on I-380 in Cedar Rapids. Nobody told me about them so I just blazed through town without a care in the world in my 2009 Chevy Cobalt and racked up like 8 tickets. Luckily there was a grace period where they wouldn’t start actually charging people until everyone realized there were speed cameras. But it’s still fucked up. I should be able to go as fast as I want when there’s no police around. That’s the beauty of speeding. You feel like you’re getting one over on the police cause they weren’t there to catch you doing your harmless crime. Speed cameras take away that little piece of freedom and I hate it. All speed cameras should be abolished. Again, I should be able to go as fast as I want when there’s no police around.
