What I'm Hearing About The "Handshake Agreement" To Move Manny Machado To The Phillies Tomorrow Morning
So while this is a story that is obviously still ongoing and won’t be completed until tomorrow AM after the All-Star Game, I have been told by multiple sources that the Orioles and the Phillies have an agreement to send Manny Machado to Philadelphia for Adonis Medina and another prospect. The deal is expected to be completed tomorrow after the ASG to let Machado represent the Os in the game. He was the one Baltimore player selected to participate in the game, and they want to make sure he’s celebrated during the game. Apparently MLB is also asking teams to cut down on the moves made during the All Star break, so we can focus on the events of the week, the same thing with the World Series. Now this doesn’t always happen, but in this case, I expect both teams to hold off until after the game tonight. I don’t care what picture Manny likes on Instagram, or what his nephew says, I 100% believe Manny will be a member of the Phillies in 24 hours. He has worn an Orioles uniform for the last time.
Now, I wrote the above paragraph yesterday but we held off on publishing until more details came out. And I’m glad we did, because it’s possible things are changing by the minute:
Since the Phillies emerged as the front runner yesterday, it’s very possible the Dodgers upped their offer and have now taken the lead.
That being said, as of THIS MOMENT, I’m still being told the handshake agreement with the Phillies stands. But I guess when it comes down to it, that could mean nothing if other teams start offering more and better deals.
This is an ongoing story and is going to be very wild until the moment he’s dealt. Again, I talked to several sources who confirmed what I was hearing about Machado to Philly. However as we know, MLB beat writers are all saying many different things. Jon Morosi is saying Philly, Jon Heyman is saying LA. I’m sure Buster Olney is saying something else. All I know is that I believe in my guys and what they told me. I will have the instant reaction after the trade is official, as well as a Manny career blog, just highlighting all his big moments in Baltimore.
