Is There Anything Worse Than Spending $26,000 On Tickets For All Of Your Family/Friends To Watch You Fight And Then Promptly Getting Dominated And Choked Out In The First Round?
I’m gonna repeat the question my headline real quick: is there anything worse than spending $26,000 on tickets for all of your family/friends to watch you fight and then promptly getting dominated and choked out in the first round? Because that’s what just happened to Cub Swanson.
Growing up in So-Cal, his dream was always to fight at the Staples Center. He said on UFC Embedded this week that he spent $26,000 on tickets to UFC 227 for all of his friends and family so they could finally see him fulfill that dream tonight, fighting in front of a sold out arena in Los Angeles full of adoring fans. And while the fans were adoring towards Cub tonight, his opponent, Renato Moicano, wasn’t. Renato went in there and dominated Swanson from the opening exchange up until he choked the life out of him at the 4:15 mark of the very first round. He’s the real deal in this division, as insane as his call for an interim title was in his post-fight interview, and I can guarantee that Renato Moicano is a name you’re gonna be hearing a lot more often in these next few years of MMA.
Sucks to see Cub lose in the manner he did tonight, completely sucking the life out of the arena, but hey, that’s the fight game. You win some, you lose some, and Cub Swanson has won plenty (and has still got a few left in the tank, I believe). He’ll rebound. He’s come back from worse before.
(still sucks tho)
