Robbery Takes A Wrong Turn When Grandma Slams Jeep Into Reverse

This week in a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa a group of gun-wielding robbers were thwarted when a woman slammed into reverse down her driveway. A CCTV camera shows the woman entering in her Jeep and before the gate closes a little Nissan Livina blocks them in. Three men get out & start tapping pistols directly on the glass at the 42 year-old woman & her daughter. That’s when she blanked out & went into action…

Via News24.com:

A police investigation found the group of men had followed her home from the local mall on Monday morning. Unbeknownst to her, she was followed to three separate locations; the hijackers only made their move as she signalled to enter her driveway.

The woman says she pressed the panic button and was waiting for help to arrive, while doing her best to keep her 16-year-old daughter calm.

“I kept talking to her and I even turned the radio up, so she wouldn’t hear the hammering of the gun against the window or their shouting. Those seconds felt like an eternity.”

She wasn’t planning on ramming into the men, but when her teenage daughter became increasingly rattled, she acted.

“Before I realised it, the car was in reverse,” she told News24

She repeatedly rammed her Jeep into the men in the Nissan until they were backed against a wall across the street, where they all proceeded to hop out & take off running. Going off pure adrenaline she claims she didn’t realize the full extent of what she’d done until she saw the video the next day. (Much like me when the DJ plays No Diggity right before ‘last call’.)

People online have been saying it was a dumb thing to do, but I think it’s easy to say until you’re in that situation. At one point in the interview she tears up noting that had there not been a change of plans, her 9 month old grandson would have been in the car. You’re a brave, fine Grandma, and I’m glad you backed the thing up.
