Floyd Mayweather Says He's Coming Out Of Retirement (Again) And Mayweather/Pacquiao II Is Happening Before The Year Is Over
Talk about a Kris Jenner move from Floyd Mayweather Jr., here. Whole boxing world talking about GGG/Canelo II tonight? How about Manny Pacquio “run into each other” at some concert in Tokyo? You know, the same way they “ran into each other” at a Miami Heat game right before the first fight was announced?
I’m DEFINITELY not the first person to have this take since Floyd fired off that Instagram post an hour ago (seriously, what a clip/caption to wake up to at 8am on Saturday), but for good reason. Floyd is undoubtably one of the greatest boxing promoters of all time. He ushered in a completely new blueprint for fight building many years ago, and it’s more or less taken over the sport – where whether they realize it or not – most boxers (and professional mixed martial artists) are emulating early Floyd Mayweather Jr tactics to promote all of their bouts.
Floyd is also NOT the most trustworthy source as far as this shit goes, so I wouldn’t get too excited just yet – if you even were excited in the first place. He said he’d be fighting McGregor way before they ever did, he said he’d meet McGregor in the octagon which obviously never happened and never will happen, he said the INITIAL Pacquiao fight would happen years before it did, you know, he’s a hype machine. And there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, but let’s call a spade a spade here. Could Mayweather/Pacquio II happen this year? Of course. There’s a TON of money involved in the mix – almost too much to deny. Even if they did half the business they did last time, it’s worth it. Same goes for a rematch with Conor McGregor, which you would thiiiink would actually be smarter/more profitable in 2018 considering he’s got the current name value over Pacquiao and opens a bigger market than him as well in the UK/Ireland and all that. But who knows! Floyd better than I, obviously. He also may just need the money again if the IRS is all over his ass.
All in all, I wouldn’t look too much into this, but I’d keep it on your radar. Don’t be surprised if it happens, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t.
