A Tale of Two Siblings: #METOO Activist Stands By Her Creepy Brother
Amy Schumer is a huge proponent of the #MeToo movement which I think is great. Sexual harassment is a serious issue and I think revelations over the past year have revealed that way too many people, both celebrities and average joes, have been getting away with too much too often. However, I must say I was tad bit shocked to learn who her real life brother is.
Wow. I have so many mixed emotions right now. Disappointment. Surprise. Confusion. Respect. Not respect for Rapaport, but respect for Amy’s blind familial loyalty. She’s willing to stand by her real-life brother, even if his actions go against everything she has been fighting for over the years.
Personally, If my real life brother turned out to be a scumbag, I’d have no choice but distance myself from him. I mean ya, somewhere deep down in my heart I would still love him because he’s family, but I for sure wouldn’t be able to bring myself to tag him in any instagram posts knowing I was giving such a reprehensible person a larger platform than he deserves. But once again, that’s just me. I was born with a crippling level of moral integrity. It’s a gift and a curse.
This whole situation sort of reminds me of Billy and Whitey Bulger.
One brother was the longest serving president of the Massachusetts state senate and president of University of Massachusetts, the other was one of the most notorious gangsters of the past 50 years. Despite having a reputation as an ethical power broker and “cultural lion of Boston”, Billy decided to sacrifice his reputation due to the loyalty he felt towards his brother. He refused to cooperate with authorities and reveal any knowledge of his criminal sibling’s whereabouts, the same way Amy Schumer has refused to distance herself from Rapaport in the midst of the #MeToo movement. Whether this is right or wrong, that’s up to you to judge. One thing is for sure though, Amy Schumer is a ride or die bitch when it comes to family ties, and for that, you gotta tip your cap.
