A Rock That A Family Used As A Doorstep For Decades Turned Out To Be A Meteorite Worth $100,000

WTVR- A rock that was used as a doorstop for decades at a Michigan farm has been identified as a meteorite valued at about $100,000. Central Michigan University says Thursday that the 22.5-pound space rock was recently identified by Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences professor Dr. Monaliza Sirbescu after the owner “brought it to her out of curiosity.” The Grand Rapids man was apparently inspired to investigate after seeing news of meteorite hunters finding shards and selling them for thousands of dollars after a meteor sighting in January in the Detroit area. The chunk of iron and nickel was later valued at $100,000 after the Smithsonian Institution verified the find, CMU said in a release. The rock, which was initially used as a doorstop in the Edmore area for several decades after a farmer recovered it sometime in the 1930s, turned out to be Michigan’s sixth-largest meteorite, a university spokesperson said.

Joe Dirt is FURIOUS right now. He can’t believe this news story about a family’s rock/doorstep turning out to be a meteorite that’s worth $100,000. Just for laughs, Joe Dirt went in to see how much his meteor friend was worth and it turned out to be a big ol’ frozen chunk of shit complete with space peanuts. Who even knew that meteorites could be worth that much? I sure as hell didn’t but then again I’m not what you would consider a smart person. 100,000 dollars is so many dollars and this family had been using that meteorite to prop a door open for DECADES. They essentially had a giant stack of money sitting on the floor doing a job where there are things that have been specifically invented to stop doors.

They’re called door stoppers and you can buy a 3-pack of door stoppers on Amazon for the low price of $9.95

Instead, this family opted to keeping the rock there for decades until one of them decided to see if it was worth anything. That’s actually the more amazing part than the $100,000. The fact that someone in the house was finally like, “Hey let’s get that giant rock checked out and see if it’s worth anything” is crazy town. This family did exactly what Joe Dirt did in fact! Just for laughs, they decided to see how much their family door stop was worth and by some miracle they walked outta there $100,000 richer. Amazing. Good for that family. Go nuts.
