Netflix & Ugly-Cry? New Docu-Series Highlights Our Powerful Connection With Dogs
Perhaps it began with my obsessive binge watching of Homeward Bound as a kid but I’ve always had a soft spot for animals. This means I’m pretty excited for ‘Dogs’, the new Netflix Docu-Series coming out on November 16th, even though I know each episode will probably make me cry until snot runs down my face, just like I did when Shadow fell in that mud hole by the train yard (#spoileralert). Neat.
From Variety:
‘Dogs’ features a variety of award-winning directors helming various episodes. The series tracks six stories from across the globe, including Syria, Japan, Costa Rica, Italy and the United States. Each episode tells the story of different dogs.
Here’s a list of the subjects & storylines in no particular order:
-The bond between a little girl with traumatic seizures and her certified therapy dog, Rory
-The risks a refugee from war-torn Syria takes to get his dog Zeus across the border from Syria to Lebanon
-The process followed by a charity called ‘Hearts and Bones’ as they rescue dogs from a kill shelter in the south
-An Italian fisherman who’s co-worker happens to be his best friend (and who also happens to be covered in fur…)
-Top dog groomers from Japan who fly to California to compete in the ultimate grooming competition
-The lives & processes of shelter workers of ‘Territorio de Zeguates’, a dog sanctuary deep in the Costa Rican rainforest that keeps pups off the streets
“In times of division, volatility and confusion ‘Dogs’ is an emotional palate cleanse. Watching the show offers a salve for the spirit and reminds us of the redemptive power of love,” one of the directors, Amy Berg says.
If you’re like me & fall apart during ‘redemptive power of love’ type stories, you don’t have to be alone. In fact, your own dogs might be your best bet for watching the series…
According to a survey released this past Spring, when it comes to watching TV most people (58%) find pets to be the best binge partner.
Via a SurveyMonkey poll from January 9-25, 2018 that’s based on more than 50,000 responses around the world:
I’m not allowed to have a dog living in my current apartment so if someone could please let me borrow theirs, lmk.
