Good Thing Kevin Love Already Secured That Bag

Cleveland Cavaliers v Minnesota Timberwolves

This outcome was always on the table once we first learned of Love’s foot injury, but now that it’s a done deal what else is there to say other than this sucks. I know CLE is rebuilding and they stink and all that, but Love was one of the only bright spots on this roster. Say what you want about him but he had started to get back to his MIN Love days and is still a walking 20/10 when he wants to be now that he doesn’t have to worry about LeBron. This just adds to the shit storm that the Cavs are right now, with the firing of their head coach, and JR Smith out here demanding trades because he’s not in the rotation, adding a foot surgery to your franchise player certainly isn’t ideal.

That’s why if you were Love this past summer, you could not have signed that extension fast enough. Sure you’re committing to stay in Cleveland but you know what? The money counts all the same. I wouldn’t exactly say the history of 7fters and foot injuries is all that great, so the fact that he secured the bag before all this happened has to be a huge relief. Terrible for Cavs fans if this is an issue that lingers and impacts his play moving forward, but for him, great finesse. While I doubt he’s happy he had to have surgery, it’s not like this happened in a contract year and is something that would have severely impacted his market.

Honestly, if I were a Cavs fan, I’d shake this off. That 2016 title makes all this worth it anyway and you have around a 5 year grace period to still love life. It’s not as if this changes their standing in the East or anything like that, and if anything it helps their potential to land someone like RJ Barrett or Zion or someone like that. While it’ll be painful to watch while Love is out, I think every Cavs fan would take this reality in turn for that title. I know I would if I were them.

So let this be a lesson to all the kids out there. You have a chance to secure a rather large bag, you sign immediately without giving it a second thought. Credit to Love for being smart enough to do it.
