There's an Entire Twitter Moment About How No One Cares If Fish/Small Pets Die and It's Upsetting Me
Twitter- @XLNB noted how small pets like gerbils, parakeets, fish and hamsters are often treated like “decoration” that are easily replaced, and the stories came through.
I have a fish back at home in Chicago. His name is Blueberry 2 (named by 3 year olds, so there was never a blueberry 1, ok?) and he has a personality. He likes the sunlight. We’re buddies. Maybe i’m just lonely because I don’t have a dog, but I swear Blueberry and I have a special bond. I feel the same way about Larry the Goldfish. Me and Kayce are always talking about how much we love Larry and how much it upsets us that no one but us seems to care if he’s taken care of or not.
I never had a hamster or gerbil or whatever because I’ve heard that they bite, but I’m sure they’re lovely pets as well. The fact of the matter is, it’s fucking upsetting that people treat these pets like they’re replaceable when they are living creatures and don’t deserve that kind of disrespect. I love that all these people started sharing stories about how much they love their small pets:
And I hate how many people told some truly disrespectful pet stories:
Anyways, when it comes down to it, fish are friends, not food! That doesn’t really apply here, but you get the picture. If you have a small pet, I respect you. It takes a lot more to love something you can’t cuddle with as much than it does to love, say, a dog. And I love dogs! But if anything were to happen to Larry, I’d burn this place to the ground.
(This moment includes birds in this “small pets” category, but this blogger does not. Birds are still weird.)
