Chapstick Szn Is Upon Us And I'm Going In
I have dry skin and hair in every season, and I have to moisturize accordingly. I’m addicted to lotions, oils, deep conditioning treatments, any possible thing I can use to have soft skin. But for some reason, I only have chapped lips in the Winter. And it. Is. Hell. There’s nothing I hate more than having chapped lips, partly because it looks gross, but also because it feels gross. And it’s more than that! It actually hurts too, because my lips get so chapped that they’re past that point where they’re dry and flaky and to the point where they’re just bright red and they hurt. It’s awful! I’ve tried literally every brand of chapstick and sleep with a lip treatment every single night, but nothing seems to work.
Chapstick brand chapstick (the strawberry flavor) is cheap and pretty good, except that it’s a little waxy and I think it might actually leave my lips MORE chapped, although the peppermint flavor is excellent. Same with Burt’s Bees. Right now i’m using Burt’s Bees “Mint Cocoa” and it smells great, but I don’t think it’s actually helping.
You can always go classic and use Aquaphor, which does work, but is not very trendy and doesn’t smell good. Smith’s Rosebud Salve is the gold standard in my opinion as it smells good and works crazy well. Hempz lip balm is also super awesome and tastes really good. Eos is ergonomic and trendy, and if you have to pick a flavor I would recommend the mint. It’s tingly and cold and smells really fresh. Love that.
However, I just borrowed Liz’s chapstick, Jack Black Intense Lip Therapy, and it was pleasantly cold, unscented and seems to be working! It’s a men’s product, because of course it is. I have a theory that men’s products work way better than similar products marketed at women. Men’s razors work better than women’s! Men’s deodorant works better than women’s! And yes, I use both. Just makes sense that men’s chapstick would work better too.
Basically, this season I’ll be purchasing close to 900 chapsticks and probably losing them all. If there’s a chapstick I haven’t tried and need to, let me know, but until the day someone cures chapped lips, I’ll just be suffering.
