Duke Continues To Tear Up The Recruiting Scene By Getting Top-3 Player Vernon Carey Over UNC And Michigan State
Well, Duke continues to do it. Expected to lose, well, pretty much everyone from this year’s team, the Blue Devils got a major commitment today for next season. The Blue Devils were able to grab top-3 prospect Vernon Carey over UNC and Michigan State.
Carey is a 6’10” big from Florida who is more of a modern day big. By that I mean that he can play both inside and out. He has great touch around the rim and can play back to the basket. But, he has a soft touch. He’s a decent free throw shooter and does have range out to the 3-point line.
Carey joins 5-star guard Boogie Ellis and 5-star wing Wendell Moore in the class of 2019 at Duke. He should bring what K likes in that sense of having a traditional big and with his ability to step out can go get another guy like Matthew Hurt or Isaiah Stewart. This is a big time get for K, especially considering some thought Duke recruiting would take a step back with Capel gone.
