JOHNSON COUNTY, Wy. (WTHR) — Health officials in Wyoming say a third cat has become infected with bubonic plague in six months. NBC News reported that this latest cat, known to wander outside near its home in Johnson County, had contracted the disease. The two other infected cats were in different counties. However, a spokeswoman for the Wyoming Department of Health says the cat has recovered. The health department recommends people avoid areas with rodents and use insect repellant in areas with fleas. The last time a human in Wyoming contracted the plague was in 2008, and one of only six cases reported since 1978. The department of health says animals and fleas from animals can pass the plague on to people. About seven humans a year get the plague in the United States. Plague symptoms in pets can include enlarged lymph glands, swelling, fever, chills, tiredness, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

HEY! HEY! HEY! OVER HERE! Why are we not paying more attention to this??? I know there’s a lot going on in the world right now but a bunch of cats testing positive for the deadliest sickness in human history seems like a pretty big deal. Ignoring something like this is like the opening 25 minutes of a mass extinction movie. First it’s three cats in Wyoming that test positive for the Bubonic Plague. Then it jumps to 10 cats. Then it jumps to a couple bears. Then a handful of humans test positive for The Black Death and before you know it people are running to their doomsday bunkers and eating canned fruits and vegetables. Oh you think I’m over reacting because a couple kitties got sick?

Here’s a quick history lesson for those at home

25 MILLION. Not 25. Not 250. Not 2,500. Not 25,000. Not 250,000 25 MILLION. 25 million people shoved off into the dark abyss the last time the Bubonic Plague took hold of the world and wouldn’t let go. And sure, the thing you always hear about The Black Death is that it could’ve been stopped with simple soap and water but you wanna know what devastating diseases do? They morph, they mutate, they adapt. So maybe soap and water would’ve worked back in the 1340s but that might not work this time around. All I’m saying is we at least need to keep an eye on this. Right now everyone either wants a Wall or doesn’t want a Wall but we’re not gonna need to worry about that if the Bubonic Plague kills all of us dead.

The solution is simple. We gotta kill those cats.
