If it's January, it Must Be Patriots Hype Video SZN

Hype video

It’s finally here. The second week of the year is when the most creative, engaged, motivated, paranoid and internet savvy fanbase in all of pro sports gets to work pumping out the Patriots hype videos. Compiling all the hatred and negativity, the doubt and despair, the struggles and the triumph, and editing them into cinematic gold. And as always, my personal favorites fall under that unparalleled art form, The Movie Mashup.

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War

Even if the trailer it’s taken from goes all the way back to last Spring, this is still a triumph. And the ending will give you goosebumps you’ll need a power sander to remove.

Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame

The inevitable and much welcome sequel. This one hits all the beats. Negativity from usual suspects Max Kellerman, Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe and Rob Parker. Even Colin Cowherd declaring their season over. Brady’s “flinching” and “noodle arm.” Then it hits the Endgame trailer sound before taking a hard turn into “Gangsta Paradise.” An unusual artistic choice that pads the running time a bit. But I won’t question the artist’s vision.

They Shall Not Grow Old

This one hits me where I live because it’s taken from Peter Jackson’s WWI documentary, which I’ve been dying to see. As a matter of fact, the Irish Rose ordered me the DVD for Christmas, but it’s formatted for British players, so I’m still waiting for the U.S. version. An inspired choice, brilliantly executed. Any time you see the old, low-def footage from the beginning of the dynasty, you get an appreciation for how long this has been going on.

Venom

A small amount of Venom, lots and lots of Eminem. Therefore, better than the actual Venom movie.

Carmina Burana O Fortuna

Not a movie trailer mashup, more of a brief highlight reel of 19-plus seasons of success. And you can never, ever go wrong using Carl Orff’s classic.

So well done, Pats YouTubers. This is a nice start to the postseason. God and Belichick willing, there’ll be plenty of more opportunities.
