First off, apologies to Kmarko for stomping on his turf & doing a millennial blog.

An episode of 60 Minutes made waves last year when Australian millionaire Tim Gurner said,

“When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn’t buying smashed avocado for $19 and four coffees at $4 each.”

Now Gurner will be able to look down his nose at us & say,

“When I was trying to buy my first home, I wasn’t buying Saucony Shadow 6000 Avocado Toast sneakers for $130.”

From the Saucony site:

Holy Saucamole! Celebrate your health kick with the delicacy of the exclusive “Avocado Toast” Shadow 6000. Featuring toast-ed leather, smashed avocado textured suede, red pepper flake collar lining, and the “Saucamole” shout out on the heel. It’s everything you avo-wanted, even if the guac is extra.

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California avocados were everywhere. The town bordering the East side of base, Fallbrook, considered itself The Avocado Capital Of The World (Mexico might disagree) and had a Holy Guacamole Festival, & some sort of Avocado radio commercial was playing constantly in my 2000 Sonata, but none of it felt forced. The fruit (veggie? Too lazy to Google this.) was just part of the SoCal culture & regular life.

In 2013 I moved back to the East coast & the avocado wasn’t as prevalent yet; I didn’t see ‘em around nearly as often… but it’s been noticeably blowin’ up on menus & in pop culture these last couple of years specifically. So I guess Saucony is hopping on the avocado… shoe market while it’s hot.

At least Saucony’s takes an original approach & makes the entire shoe a big avocado toast. Would I wear them? No. (I’m way more fashionable in the cheap, gray Vans I wear every single day). But I don’t hate them. Looking online I saw shoe-trade sites are already selling them for marked up prices, so maybe they’re doing well?

Ohhh man, millennials sure do looooove their avocados. Either that or we sure are susceptible to sneaky avocado marketing campaigns. Millennials, amiright?!
