A Hipster Tried To Sue A Magazine For Using His Image In An Article About How All Hipsters Look Alike Only To Find Out He Wasn't The Hipster In The Picture
CBC- A man threatened to sue a technology magazine for using his image in a story about why all hipsters look the same, only to find out the picture was of a completely different guy. The story in the MIT Technology Review detailed a study about the so-called hipster effect — “the counterintuitive phenomenon in which people who oppose mainstream culture all end up looking the same.” The inclusion of version of a Getty Images photo of a bearded, flannel-wearing man, tinted with a blue and orange hue, prompted one reader to write to the magazine: “Your lack of basic journalistic ethics in both the manner in which you ‘reported’ this uncredited nonsense, and the slanderous, unnecessary use of my picture without permission demands a response, and I am, of course, pursuing legal action.” But it wasn’t actually him.
What an idiot! What a fucking idiot! There’s no better way to prove that all hipsters look alike than to put a picture of a random hipster in an article and have a hipster that isn’t the hipster in the picture think they’re the hipster in the picture. Case closed. Everybody go home. All hipsters look alike.
Everybody seems to know that fact but the hipster themselves. We’re almost a decade into the Hipster Era at this point so all of us can spot a hipster from 500 yards away like we’re military trained snipers. The guy in the picture has all the characteristics of your stereotypical hipster.
Stupid beanie that is worn in any weather, even the summer time? Check.
Stupid flannel shirt that’ll fit in nicely at any indy coffee shop or micro brewery? Check.
Beard that I’m incredible jealous of? Check.
Brooding, off-in-the-distance look like his favorite band just got signed to Interscope and Pepsi wants their song for their next commercial? Check.
The guy touches each and every hipster base. So it’s not a surprise that he looked at a picture of a hipster who looks and dresses exactly like him and was like, “Hey that’s a picture of me!” Yeah dude no shit. That’s because all you mother fuckers look alike. Congratulations on proving what everybody already knew. Hopefully this is a wake up call to that hipster and all the other hipsters out there. You all look the same to us.
It’s strange, you’d think hipster fashion would be hard to pin down because, once one look got popular and mainstream, you’d think think they’d switch it up to something else. That hasn’t happened in the slightest and now all everyone walking around Williamsburg looks exactly the same. The hipster who tried to sue the magazine shouldn’t feel too bad though. I’d be willing to bet that a bunch of hipsters looked at that magazine and thought they were the hipster in the article.
