Man Arrested For Falsely Reporting A Gunman To The Police In Order To Sneak Out Of Work Early

(WSB) – Police on Monday arrested an Illinois man accused of falsely reporting a gunman at his job because he wanted to get out of work early, according to multiple reports.

Authorities said they were called to Ruprecht Co., a meat processing company in Mundelein, around 1:15 p.m. Monday by a man who claimed a person in the building was armed with a gun and threatening employees. Dispatchers tried to get more information from the caller, but he said his phone battery was dying and disconnected the call, according to police.

No gunman was found, and police later allowed employees to return to the facility.

Mundelein police Chief Eric Guenther told the Tribune officers later identified Fletcher as the person who made the initial report to police. He said Fletcher was trying to create a “distraction” that would allow him to slip out of work without anyone noticing.

The chief told the Tribune that Fletcher “indicated to investigators that he had been working at the business since 6 a.m. and didn’t want to be there anymore.”

The ol’ Gunman in the Meat Processing Plant attempted robbery we’ve all heard about. Seen it once you’ve seen it a thousand times. Honest to God I think the last time a gun was anywhere near a meat processing facility was during the roaring ’20s when Al Capone was using tommy guns to thwart his bootlegging competition.

Listen I respect the mailtime state of mind going on here. Everyone in the world can relate to staring at that clock, waiting for your shift to end, yet time seems to stand completely still. There’s nothing you can do in that moment other than start running through every excuse your mind can muster to get out of there. This guy settled on “call the cops, make up a gunman, and then pretend your phone was dying.” Which leads me to believe that this was the very first idea that came to his mind and he did not hesitate at all. The second this thought crossed his mind he picked up his phone. Maybe five more minutes of ironing this plan out and he comes up with something slightly better than this. No one in the world knows that falsifying a police report carries a potential three year sentence, but I bet if you told this guy he had to spend several more hours in that meat packing plant or three years of free time in the clink he’d take the clink 10/10 times.
