If I'm A Hawks/Wizards Fan, Seeing This Year's Lottery Using Last Year's Rules Would Make Me Jump Off A Bridge

First, a moment of silence for Hawks and Wizards fans.

……..

……..

……..

That’s rough. Considering they dropped from 1 and 2 if the league used their old rules and ended up 8 and 9 would make me rather upset if I rooted for those two teams. Only slight improvements for CLE/PHX/CHI so those fans would still be bitter and obviously NO/MEM/LAL are pumped the league went a different direction this year. It would have been awesome to see Zion team up with Trae Young and John Collins, that instantly becomes one of the most fun League Pass teams in the league. Maybe it would even have been the thing that convinces ATL to get better jerseys since everyone would finally be watching their games. For Washington, you’d think with John Wall missing the year and then who knows after that, Ja Morant would have been a great replacement. That’s a kick to the dick if I’ve ever seen one.

So while there are a few fan bases that may be angry seeing this order, in a shocking turn of events I almost prefer what we got with this new system. This summer is 100000x more interesting now that there are more legit contenders for the AD sweepstakes. If last year’s order happened I don’t think we have nearly the same amount of drama, and as someone that roots for chaos that’s all that I care about. It’s more fun to speculate how shady the NBA is with fixing the lottery even if that’s not true, and we don’t get that same fun with 2018’s order. I don’t think the change is going to ruin tanking, teams will just try to be sort of shitty instead of really shitty, so at least this year’s lottery gave us some good conspiracy theories.

It also has to be comforting for Knicks fans to know they would have been boned either way. I know it’s probably been tough to accept that they’re not getting Zion or Morant this year, but knowing that the new system didn’t impact their standing one bit is some decent closure. If I’m the league I prefer the new order as well, because not only did it not reward the teams that 100% tanked, but it also turned up the heat on what was already going to be an insane summer.

So I’ll ask you. Outside of Hawks/Wizards fans, which order do you think is better?
