The Celtics Were Charmin Soft This Year But Thankfully There's A Way To Fix It
I know Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens have a lot on their plates right now, and one of those tasks is filling the assistant coaching position that’s open to due to Micah Shrewsberry’s departure to the college game. There are reports that they interviewed JB Bickerstaff last night in Chicago which is a fine option, but with all due respect it’s not what this team needs.
What is the one thing we can all agree to when it comes to evaluating this Celtics group? They were soft. The going got tough and they turtled time and time again. There’s also the whole locker room drama and guys fighting each other non stop. You want to put an end to that? You bring in Perk. Kyrie talked about how this team needed a 14 year vet, well Perk fits the bill. Players in the league respect him, he’s won a title in this city so he knows what it takes, and something tells me despite being a rather pleasant individual, Perk doesn’t take any shit. If Kyrie ends up staying the two already have a relationship from their time in CLE, and honestly I’m surprised this hasn’t happened already.
This team needs to get its balls back, and actually be a team opponents fear. Nobody in my mind would help restore that more than Perk. He knows the game sure, but I’d be down if his main role was just to bust out his intimidating ass stare down in an effort to get into the heads of whoever the Celts are playing. Then worst case if every big man you have goes down, have him un-retire real quick and sign a 10 day or something and I’ll give Perk 10-15 minutes, why not?
Perk has been pretty open in terms of his desire to return to where his NBA journey first began, you may remember what he had to say at Pierce’s ceremony
and while the hope and dream of seeing him return as a player is dead, having him on the bench is the next best thing. I’d like to live in a world where Brad Stevens is in constant fear that Perk might give him a wedgie if he’s slow to call a timeout during a massive 20-2 run. I want a guy that has the balls to step up and whip the young kids into shape if they’re fucking up, and also has the respect of the vets and the stars who will actually listen to what he has to say or else they’ll feel his wrath. Basically what I’m getting at is maybe the Celtics need to shift their coaching strategy to a more fear approach, and nobody does that better than my man Perk.
This makes so much sense I can’t even stand it, and if it doesn’t happen I’ll have to question if the front office even has any idea what the hell they’re doing. Get it done and bring Perk back to where it all started.
