My Queen Natalie Portman Dunks On Moby's (Old Techno Guy) Face For Saying They Dated When She Was A Teenager
BBC – Natalie Portman has denied dating Moby in her teens, calling the musician’s behaviour “inappropriate”.
The actress was responding to Moby’s new memoir, in which he claims Portman asked him out after a show in 2001.
“I was a bald binge drinker and Natalie Portman was a beautiful movie star. But here she was in my dressing room, flirting with me,” he wrote.
But Portman said the description was inaccurate, calling Moby a “creep” who overstepped his bounds.
“And Moby? You can get stomped by Obie, You 36-year-old baldheaded ***, blow me, You don’t know me, you’re too old, let go It’s over, nobody listens to techno.” -Eminem – Natalie Portman
Remember Moby? He made that song Go that you heard bumping in your mom’s car on the way to middle school.
Turns out he’s in the news for writing in his book that he dated a “20 year old” Natalie Portman, when Natalie Portman says she was really 18 and Moby was an old dude creeping on her.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “I was surprised to hear that he characterised the very short time that I knew him as dating, because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school.
“He said I was 20; I definitely wasn’t. I was a teenager. I had just turned 18. That he used this story to sell his book was very disturbing to me.”
She continued: “I was a fan and went to one of his shows when I had just graduated. He was on tour and I was working shooting a film, so we only hung out a handful of times before I realised that this was an older man who was interested in me in a way that felt inappropriate.”
Meanwhile Moby says they were full on dating, and he even visited her at some small school in Cambridge, MA where she was going to college and laid with her in his dorm room.
In his autobiography, the musician – who sold millions of copies of his 1999 album Play – describes attending the MTV Awards with the actress, and later visiting her while she attended Harvard in Boston.
“I took a taxi to Cambridge to meet Natalie. We held hands and wandered around Harvard, kissing under the centuries-old oak trees. At midnight she brought me to her dorm room and we lay down next to each other on her small bed. After she fell asleep I carefully extracted myself from her arms and took a taxi back to my hotel.”
But Portman, who has become one of the leading figures in the Time’s Up movement, said the book contained several “factual errors and inventions”.
“There was no fact checking from him or his publisher,” said the Oscar-winning star of Black Swan. “It almost feels deliberate.”
Is it possible that Natalie is lying? Of course. Nobody wants to admit they dated Moby.
Is it possible Moby is exaggerating (or just flat out making up) things to sell a book when nobody has cared about him since literally before the 2000s started? Probably more possible. I mean when I saw Moby was trending on Twitter, I knew there was like a 99% chance it was for something bad. Like you just don’t hear Moby’s name anymore. Ever. I don’t even think “Moby” would trend if he died. He’d be a guy they forgot on the Grammys’ “In Memoriam” only there would be no outrage because nobody would notice. Last I heard from him Pitchfork was giving him a 2.4 and saying “Whether seduced by chart flirtations or weary of constant mockery, Moby has filed away his distinguishing characteristics, and all that’s left is an artist too played out to even be one of Eminem’s punchlines.” I mean the source article itself describes him as the guy “who sold millions of copies of his 1999 album Play.”
Since this memoir was released in 2019 and not 2000, it would stand to reason that he needed some interesting tidbits to actually make people care and buy it. It’s like rule #1 when you’re washed up and low on cash and need to capitalize on your fading star power one last time before you take your residency in Vegas. Also when you start your recollection of facts from 20 years ago with “I was a bald binge drinker” it kind of undermines you a little bit.
Then again maybe I’m just being defensive of my Jewish queen Natalie Portman. Had a crush on her forever and would have killed to date her consensually when she was older than 18. If she says Moby creeped on her then that’s good enough for me.
