Robert Downey Jr. Is Actually Going To Use Robotics And Nanotech To Try And Save The World

Variety

Robert Downey Jr. used his part of the opening keynote for Amazon’s Re:Mars conference in Las Vegas Tuesday evening to announce the launch of a new organization that is committed to using advanced technologies for the good of the environment. The Footprint Coalition, as the group is called, is scheduled to officially launch by April of 2020.

“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” Downey Jr. said, relaying that he had been given these insights a few weeks back by a roundtable of experts. “God I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects,” he joked during his talk.

Throughout his talk, Downey Jr. painted AI as a significant technological advancement that gave him hope — only to admit that he also found himself alarmed over the state of the environment. “I have this quiet sense of crisis,” he said, admitting that he had contributed more than others to the climate crisis. “I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus.”

You ever leave a movie theater and get inspired for a few minutes to become the person in the movie? It would happen to me after every Christopher Nolan Batman movie, as well as Iron Man. That dream quickly ended once I realized how worthless I was as a human being and had no money to do any of that. Well, it appears Robert Downey Jr. and Tony Stark are actually becoming one and the same.

After retiring the Iron Man character last month, RDJ is going to try and save the world using robotics and nanotechnology. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought nanotech was just a made-up thing in the Iron Man movies. Yeah, probably just me, but this is so cool. I mean right now he’s just as good as Elon Musk with talking a lot and not doing anything, but I have more faith in Downey actually doing something than Elon based on the last few years.

Imagine RDJ getting a Nobel Peace Prize for saving the environment? He just figures it all out because he finally had some free time from being the number one movie star in the world. No big deal, he’ll just do everything guys.

Hey, maybe Cap wants to help out too?
