The Vancouver Canucks Are Back In Black, Top 5 Jerseys That Should Be Brought Back To The NHL

In honor of their 50th season the Canucks are bringing back their best jersey of the seemingly dozen or so they’ve had since their inception. I am not sure if it’s just my 7 year-old brain remembering how sweet Pavel Bure was in these or if I actually love them but the Black Skate Canucks jerseys are a big upgrade over their current look. Which is a common theme across the NHL for the teams not in the original 6. You think about the Red Wings, Blackhawks, Rangers, Leafs, Bruins, and Habs…those teams have basically had the same uniform for like 70 years. Minor little tweaks here and there, but they got it right the first time so they just never really changed. They’re unique and iconic. It seems like everyone else is just keeps trying. Rotating in and out of new jerseys and new color schemes and nothing ever quite takes hold. Here is my list of the top 5 jerseys that need to make a comeback. No particular order

Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks have begun to dip their toes in to bringing these back. Old logo on the current color scheme as an alternate, they wore them on an anniversary somewhat recently. It’s time though. It’s time to go back these original Ducks jerseys full time. They’re unique. They’re sweet. And the nostalgia just pours over you like magic waters. Ducks on the pond with one of the best jerseys ever.

North Stars

I don’t care if it’s the Dallas Stars or the Minnesota Wild, but somebody needs to bring back this color scheme because they’re one of my favorite jerseys that ever existed. There’s a reason why the NHL still sells a shit ton of merch with this design and it’s because EVERYONE loves it. Meanwhile both Dallas and the Wild have changed their uniforms 7 or 8 times in 20 years and nothing has sniffed how sweet these were. These teams should racing to snatch up this look and then not look back.

San Jose Sharks

Just a little bit lighter color teal and a little less busy than their modern iteration and it makes a HUGE difference. The old sharks jersey popped on TV and that was before HD. The current jersey isn’t bad, but they aren’t a crisp as the original.

Arizona Coyotes

I like when teams have a look or a color scheme that you can’t find anywhere else. There’s a ton of teams across sports that are red and white, or red white and black. It gets stale. It get’s boring. There’s NEVER been a jersey quite like these Coyotes jerseys. It looks like they were designed by a guy on mushrooms, but it still somehow works and fits Arizona. The Coyotes have worn these are alternates as well, but they need to be the fulltime jersey.

Tampa Bay Lightning

I am not saying that these are one of the best jerseys of all-time, but they’re a big upgrade from the current Lightning uniforms. Tampa now looks like they’re the Maple Leafs but sponsored by Gatorade. It’s a boring, shitty jersey that needs to be scrapped. I also want to institute a rule across all of sports…if you win a championship in a particular jersey then that is your jersey forever. You’re locked in. Frozen in time. Tampa has been a loser franchise since they made the switch to the Gatorade jerseys. Something to think about.
