Stan Bowman Needs To Get On The Phone With Steve Yzerman Right Now
“When my boy calls you on Friday, let him think that this was his idea”–Scotty
We are like 56 hours exactly from the NHL Draft. There’s a TON of anxiety. D or forward, Byram or Turcotte, Zegras or Dach? Not an easy question. No perfect answer. The best answer is staring them in the face though…just go get both.
I think this is the best idea I’ve heard for the Blackhawks leading up to the draft. It’s also a big win for the Wings as well. The Wings need defense in their prospect pool and the Hawks have it in spades. They’ve loaded up in recent drafts at forward with Zadina and Veleno in 1st round last year. If the Wings are looking for a high end defenseman prospect in the draft well…they aren’t going to get one where they are sitting. Adam Boqvist would be the second best defenseman in the 2019 NHL Draft had he just been born literally one month later.
If the Wings pull the trigger on this deal then they’d get their elite level dman, plus another highly skilled skating dman, and if they need a sweetener beyond that I think the Hawks would be cool with adding Artur Kayumov, Max Shulanov, or Alex Fortin. If the Wings don’t want Krys then perhaps the Blackhawks would be fine swapping Lucas Carlsson.
The Blackhawks walk away with an A+ defenseman in Bowen Byram, a potential #1 center in Turcotte, Zegras, or Dach. It’s a win for both teams and a way for the Blackhawks to come out of this draft with everything they could possibly want. A foundation to win the West for years to come. Someone please send this blog to Stan Bowman. Thank you
