NSFL: Cyclist Gets Impaled By A Giant Wooden Spike That Ripped Out Of The Track
Alright so if you read the headline and saw the NSFL tag in there, you should already know that the next picture isn’t going to be pretty. But just in case you accidentally clicked the link, here’s your last and final warning….

Uhhhh hey, bud. You’ve got a giant fucking spike piercing through your lungs right there. Might want to get that bad boy checked out. And for those of you who are curious as to how something like this is possible…
Metro – Italian cyclist Lorenzo Gobbo is in intensive care after his lung was punctured by a piece of wooden track during a race in Belgium. The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital and required surgery to have the giant piece of wood removed after it cut his thigh, pierced his side and tore through his lung. The half-a-metre long piece of wood was raised after a pedal had hit the track following a collision between riders. Gobbo required a three-hour operation at the Jan Palfijn hospital in Ghent and will remain there for the next few days.
It just seems like, oh I don’t know, maybe the track shouldn’t just fall apart during the middle of a race. I’m no cycling expert but I just feel like maybe the track should stay intact for the entirety of a race, regardless if there are any collisions or not. Maybe they should take a look into that.
The good news here is that the kid is expected to make a full recovery. I mean I don’t think he’ll be jumping out of the hospital bed today or anything but eventually he’ll be back to 100%. Which–considering he had a half-meter wooden dagger piercing through his chest and puncturing his lung–is pretty miraculous. Plus he’ll probably end up with a pretty bad ass scar to come out of all of this. Chicks dig scars. If you want to be a glass half-full type of person, I think this is actually about as well as getting impaled by a wood spike could have gone. Expected full recovery, a bad ass scar, and a bad ass story. Honestly not too bad of a day. But yeah…maybe this kid might want to take up a safer sport in the future. Something like MMA or boxing.
