Should Robert Downey Jr Get An Academy Award Nomination For 'Avengers: Endgame'? (Yes)

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw on Twitter was a debate as to whether or not Robert Downey Jr should receive an Academy Award for his performance in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. I sprung outta bed (knowing the takes were scorching hot today), fired off the following tweet…

(Just outta support for my dog TONEY STARK)

…and hopped into the shower, ready to begin my Wednesday. I honestly didn’t even really think about it when I tweeted about it, I was just being a ride or die for my guy, but the more I did think about it, the more I convinced myself that at the very least, an Academy Award nomination wouldn’t be that crazy.

I mean, he was the lead actor driving what is now the highest grossing film of all time, in a universe he practically created, and has played around in for TEN YEARS! Yeah, I know he was playing a superhero, and generally, the Oscars stay far away from these types of movies, especially in their ever so prestigious top categories, but if Lena fucking Headey* could receive a nomination for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series” at this year’s Emmys, with the excuse that it’s a nomination celebrating the work she’s done over the entire ‘Game of Thrones’ series…Robert Downey Jr could get this. He definitely could. I actually firmly believe and would stand by the take that Robert Downey Jr played Tony Stark/Iron Man as well as any actor/actress has played any character, but I digress.

He won’t get the nom, and I know he won’t, but let’s not act like this is a ridiculous notion to bring up. What the Russo Brothers said was true. RDJ’s performance in ‘Endgame’ probably emotionally affected more people than any other in any movie out this year. Myself included…

…and if they DID nominate him, I bet that’d be enough to significantly boost ratings, legitimately. Those old geezers that run the Academy probably already accepted a couple bribes from Jimmy Cameron to keep Endgame’s name off their lips, though. Fuckers.

*I love Lena Headey. Nothing against Lena Headey. Cersei just didn’t do shit in Season 8.
