Maryland Lacrosse All-American Jared Bernhardt Will Play College Football, Continues Trend Of Lacrosse Producing The Best Athletes

NCAA LACROSSE: MAY 02 Big Ten Men's Lacrosse Semi Finals - Maryland v Johns Hopkins

Inside Lacrosse – Maryland senior attackman Jared Bernhardt is expected to enter the NCAA’s transfer portal to play football with his fifth year of eligibility, multiple sources tell Inside Lacrosse.

Named a first-team All-American this season with 51 goals and 27 assists, Bernhardt will finish out his lacrosse eligibility with the Terps in 2020 while looking for a place to play quarterback for a program that runs an option offense…In high school, he led Lake Brantley (Fla.) and its triple-option system to a Class 8A playoff run, accounting for over 4,000 all-purpose yards of offense and 30 touchdowns during his final two years. As a senior, Bernhardt apparently contemplated accepting an offer from Navy to run the same offense, electing to remain loyal to the Terps’ lacrosse program.

Jim Brown. Will Yeatman. Chris Hogan. And soon to be Jared Bernhardt.

That there is just a small sample from the list of guys who have gone from college lacrosse to the NFL. I know that Bernhardt still needs to finish out his senior year playing lacrosse for the Terps and then after that he still needs to find a school to play football at. But do you really think that Bill Belichick is going to sit there at the 2021 Draft and not pick this kid up as the eventual successor to Tom Brady? Belichick may even just skip over the 2020 draft entirely so he can focus on picking up Jared Bernhardt next year. And if it’s not the Patriots, well then there’s another team in the AFC who just recently lost a quarterback and are so desperate that they’re bringing in guys like Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel. Just saying.

Regardless, this continues the trend of lacrosse producing the best athletes on the planet. The anonymous haters and the losers love to say shit in the comments like “lax is for kids who were too unathletic to play real sports in high school”.  Ironically, most people who say shit like that right now are probably too unathletic to even look down and see their own dick now, but I digress. To shut those haters all the way up, we’ve got guys like Tewaaraton winner Pat Spencer playing some college basketball at Northwestern with his fifth year eligibility. And not only is he just playing ball for Northwestern, but he’s already dominating shit.

We all know about Chris Hogan spending his fifth year eligibility playing football at Monmouth, and now he’s a 2x Super Bowl Champ. And next on deck is Jared Bernhardt. A first team All-American who could already be playing DI college football right now if he wasn’t so goddamn nasty at lacrosse. He figured he’d go play lax at Maryland for a few years, get a National Championship, and then college football would still be there waiting for him after his 4 years because he’s such an animal. It’ll be Trevor Lawrence and Jared Bernhardt as the two best quarterbacks in the nation in 2021. Get the kid running the triple option at Georgia Tech and the ACC will finally get interesting again.
