The World Is Coming To An End, Michael Che Referred To Caitlyn Jenner As A 'Fella'

Source – During the “Weekend Update” segment of Saturday night’s show, Che joked about Kanye West‘s new, religious public persona by comparing him to Jenner, joking that the rapper is turning into an “old white lady.”

“At first I thought Kanye was losing his mind, and now I feel like he’s fine, he’s just turning into an old white lady,” he said while referencing West’s plans to alter his old songs to feature less provocative lyrics. “I mean, he used to be one of the coolest black dudes on Earth. Now he’s showing up to events in sweatpants and orthopedic sneakers, listening to Kenny G and trying to get black people to like Trump. It’s like, how long before this guy changes his name to Kathy?”

Che, 36, then turned his attention to West’s wife Kim Kardashian‘s former step-parent Jenner, who publicly came out as transgender in 2015. The comedian referred to the Olympian as a “fella” and showed a photo of her before her transition.

“Now, you might think that I’m crazy, but about five years ago, there was a fella named Bruce Jenner, and he moved to Calabasas … ” he said before trailing off.

In NBC’s clip, there was a mixture and laughter and groans. Che’s co-host Colin Jost covered his face and added, “That’s pretty much ended, yeah that’s great.”

Can you believe this shit? Michael Che, a COMEDIAN, had the AUDACITY to try and make a joke. Where does he get off? Calling Caitlyn Jenner a ‘fella’ in the year 2019…smh. Someone needs to cancel him and cancel him now. He’s insensitive, he’s rude, and he’s undermining the fight for trans rights. Having said that, I do have a slight problem with the people who are pretending to be upset over Che’s joke that can be summed up in a tweet by none other than Tim Dillon…

Exactly. Bruce existed for sixty-seven years until he decided to transition in 2015. Now, I understand that while Caitlyn may have presented as a man during that time, she was actually female throughout, but that doesn’t change the fact that Bruce existed as Bruce. The joke may not have landed with everyone, but as a comedian, he has a right to make it.

Patrice O’Neal gave an interview on outrage culture back when outage culture was just getting going and to this day it’s one of the most articulate arguments I’ve ever heard. Watch the whole thing if you have time…

The funny thing is, Caitlyn has a great sense of humor. Remember her at The Roast of Alec Baldwin? She was hilarious. Her response to getting roasted for the better part of an hour was (01:33), “we can all laugh at ourselves. It was great.

I’m purposely not including any of the tweets because I don’t want to add fuel to the fire. Instead let’s all just remember that jokes are jokes and if you take a second to understand intent, you can differentiate between what’s actually harmful and what’s not. Keep doing you, Che.
