Are the 2019 New York Jets a team of destiny?
I’ll be the first to admit it. Calling the 2019 New York Jets a team of destiny is a little far fetched (for now) when considering the fact that they are just getting their fourth win….three weeks into November. But, they’re only 2 games out of the wild card spot with some rather weak teams ahead of them.
“But Ethan the Jets are a weak team”. Sure, one could make that argument. I will counter that with the fact that the Jets have the best rush defense in the entire NFL - sidenote, they held generational running back Saquon Barkley to a measly yard - and they have this man under center...
Sam. Darnold.
Sammy Savior.
This is the guy the Jets have been searching for all my life. This is the guy who is going to, one day, take the Jets back to the playoffs and return them to the national spotlight. The way Sam has played the past three weeks has borderline brought me to tears. He is incredible. And for him to go up to the media after the win against the Giants and say "we still have a chance at the playoffs" has a pessimistic fanbase ready to believe again...for now.
Could it all be too little too late for the Jets? Probably. There is one side of me that knows the carriage will turn back into a pumpkin and the same old Jets show up just to do something stupid like handing the Bengals their first win. Or they'll do something like win the next four only to lose a "win and in" game in Buffalo week 17, just like they did in 2015.
Jets remaining schedule:
Sunday, December 1st: at Bengals (0-11)
Sunday, December 8th: vs. Dolphins (2-9)
Thursday, December 12th: at Ravens (8-2)
Sunday, December 22nd: vs. Steelers (6-5)
Sunday, December 29th: at Bills (8-3)
The Raven game is gonna be really tough, I can only see one way the Jets win and that is to shut down Lamar Jackson, which only the Chargers have done since Jackson has entered the league. Not great for the Jets.
For now, though, I'm just gonna keep riding the wave and hope they run the table and snag that 6th playoff spot in the AFC.
