Serious Question Coming Soon-ish: Flying Car or Self-Charging Car?

Even though we’re not as advanced in 2020 as Back to the Future 2 predicted we’d be in in 2015, we still have some pretty cool shit coming out that’s already at least prototyped, if not being actively produced. And one day, you may be asking yourself if you want to take the air or the streets on a quick trip around town…

I was way too high when I found this fucking thing last night and it had me absolutely dumbfounded until I went to bed. It’s a flying car for 2, and we’re already flying them around in North Carolina, it’s incredible! I thought people would be losing their shit when flying cars got invented, guess not? Anyway, they’re here and called the EHang 216 and it can fly 2 people (up to 570 pounds) for about 30 minutes.

Even though it can only go 30 minutes a pop right now, it can go over 80 MPH, so you may not need that much flight time for local trips anyway… however; it costs about a quarter million dollars, and won’t be available to private buyers at first, so good luck buying one for yourself anytime soon. I think we can all agree though, having a drone car would be better than not having a drone car.

EHang is a Chinese company that was first allowed to operate their drones in the USA by North Carolina. The drones are primarily planned for autonomous (driverless) cargo and taxi utility; so not planning to let humans drive them which is probably smart, but also infuriating because we all want to fly a drone car… At least you may be able to Uber in one someday soon.

The next futuristic travel choice you may encounter could be something like this little guy here, way less sexy but still pretty cool, it’s a self-charging electric car:

This one is designed for a driver, but as time goes on, and solar powered cars become efficient enough to live forever out on their own, and automated driving also gets safer and safer… it would make sense to me that they will become perfect driverless taxis - especially if it's sunny where you live. Of course, all of this is still years away before it's accessible to most regular people, but still pretty cool that this stuff is at least in early production by the start of the new decade.
