Source - Mac Miller’s estate has released the rapper’s first posthumous single, “Good News,” from the just-forthcoming Circles, out January 17. Produced by Miller and über-producer/composer Jon Brion, the release is accompanied by an animated video, bookended by studio footage of Miller recording an unreleased song.

Per a note from his family, at the time of his death Miller was well into completing an album meant as a companion to Swimming, which he’d released a month prior to his death.

Together, they’d complete a concept: Swimming in Circles. To flesh out some of his early sketches for the project, Miller enlisted Jon Brion — who, after Miller’s death, cleared his schedule and dedicated himself to finishing the album.

There are likely many more Mac Miller songs and fragments in the vault, but Circles may be the last time we’re so close to his vision.

It’s always fascinating to me to hear an artist’s music after they die. These people spend their entire lives making music and the vast majority of it never sees the light of day. It’s not like they make an album and that’s it. They record thousands of hours worth of music and the stuff that gets released is only the tip of the iceberg. Which is great because it’s the best of the best, but the real raw, emotional stuff always seems to get put out after they die. So for his fans, this has got to be an awesome experience.

My buddies and I used to listen to him a ton in college. K.I.D.S. was our smoking music. Sitting outside on a warm spring day in Amherst ripping a comically large bong. Ugh. The good old days. Looking back that was an extreme way to get high but that’s not the point. “Circles” comes out January 17th and I can’t wait. RIP Mac Miller.
