Jose Bautista Is Attempting To Help The Dominican Republic Qualify For The Olympics As A Pitcher
Now this story came out a few months back, former slugger Jose Bautista wanted to try and comeback into baseball as a two-way player, something that you are allowed to have on the roster now and must be designated as such. Jeff Passan is reporting that Bautista will be playing for the Dominican Republic as they attempt to qualify for the Olympics, and he may be counted on to actually pitch for them. He'll be playing majority at first base, but holy shit could you imagine if we see Joey Bats as a pitcher? Marcus Stroman had tweeted that he worked out with Bats and thought he'd be able to make a MLB bullpen. I call bullshit on that. Passan reported that his fastball was 94 and he had a slider that wasn't terrible. That's a great story and all, but 94 isn't getting by anyone. I'm praying to the high heavens that Bautista and the DR advance, make it into the Olympics, make a run, and we see a walkoff hit off him and the batter sends his bat to the moon. I mean full bat flip, throw, do whatever you want with it. Or do me one better and after every K he records, give me a glove throw into the stands. Treat every individual at-bat like he did when he launched his bat. I am intrigued to see Bautista on the mound pitching to actual talented baseball players, just to see if he does try and sneak 94 by someone. I need him getting flustered and upset on the mound and losing it when someone flips a bat, a little taste of his own medicine.
Now let me see this bracket so I can see if we get a potential rematch of Roughned Odor vs Jose Bautista.
