The Ivy League Just Cancelled Its Conference Tournament Due To The Coronavirus And I'm Officially Worried About March
And just like that here we go. The Ivy League, which created their conference tournament just a few years ago, decided to straight up cancel this year's version because of the coronavirus. It's by far the biggest story now in college hoops as there's growing concern what's going to happen across the country over the next week.
Remember on Sunday, the NCAA came out and said the plan was to go on according to play for the NCAA Tournament being played in front of fans:
I'm still in the camp of this happening, but I'm now officially worried. We just had a conference cancel its tournament. I know the Big East said they'll be going on as planned at MSG, which is key considering MSG is a regional site this year. But now I'm starting to wonder if people will freak out. I know money drives the NCAA, but the majority of money comes from the TV deal. The cities that host the tournament sites would be the ones to lose out on money if they play these games in front of empty gyms.
Really, I'm just hoping this is going to be nerds being nerds in the Ivy League. Really hope it's Yale trying to get a leg up on Dave here more than anything. I don't want to live in a world where my NCAA Tournament is messed up. I don't want an overreaction to the Ivy League cancelling its tournament and have the NCAA start second guessing themselves.
I've said it before, just don't be an asshole. That's the camp I fall in here. If you don't feel well, stay at home. Wash your hands. Don't ruin the greatest time of the year for everyone because you're a selfish dick. I'm very much on team going to all these games because I enjoy it, but I'm also now worried about the NCAA overreacting.
PS: I'd be fucking pissed if I'm Harvard. They finished a game behind Yale and just beat Yale by 14 in the last game of the regular season. If they didn't lose to a shitty Brown team, they'd be tied for first. I'd be screaming here if I'm Harvard, which I know seems weird because Harvard people seem to always get breaks.
