The Backstreet Boys Reunited To Have A Coronavirus Living Room Concert And Smashed "I Want It That Way." Also, I Think They're Better Than NSYNC? WOW.
I have something STUNNING I'm about to say. I can't even believe I'm gonna say it.
To start this blog I was going to say that everyone knows NSYNC is the superior band but their silence on living room concerts for America to defeat COVID-19 has been deafening. I've always been team NSYNC. In fact, one of the first fights I ever got in in my life was because someone called me gay because I was saying that everyone was a liar for not admitting "Bye, Bye, Bye" was a good song. It was a good song, it's still a good song, and I do not regret throwing hands over it.
But now that I'm sitting here thinking over their catalog, BSB might have the better heavy hitters. I mean you can walk into any crowded room in America and yell, "YOU ARE...." and you're gonna hear everyone repeat back, ".... MY FIIIIIIIREEEEEEE." More people know the lyrics to that then the National Anthem and I fucking guarantee it. "Everybody," "As Long As You Love Me," "Quit Playing Games," "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely," "Shape of my Heart," "Larger Than Life," and "The Call" are bonafide smash hits. They stick with you. The only NSYNC songs that I can still think of off the top of my head are "Bye, Bye, Bye," "Tearin' Up My Heart," and "I Want You Back." Also I remember "Pop" but I remember how much I didn't like it so that doesn't count.
This is shocking to even me as I write it, but I think I've flipped. I think NSYNC had JT and he was a superstar who covered up the band's flaws and obviously the most iconic member of either band, but I'm pretty sure BSB is a better band top to bottom. I think they made better music. I mean, did you know the Backstreet Boys are the top selling boy band of all time? NSYNC doesn't even crack the top 5! They're number 7!
I think I'm officially gonna call it in favor of BSB. This is like when my taste buds flipped and I started liking dark chocolate more than milk chocolate. I don't know how it happened or why, but I can't imagine a world when I thought differently. Backstreet Boys were the better band, NSYNC just had a more iconic frontman. NSYNC was Lebron on the Cavs the first go around, a star with not much around him. Backstreet was the Spurs. They didn't have the headline grabber, they just won as a unit.
WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS.
PS - Most underrated song of the boy band era. "The Call" was a SMASH.
