Blake Snell Getting Rocked As Blake Snell And Pulling Himself In His MLB The Show League Game Was Pure Comedy
I always wondered what it would be like to be a professional athlete playing as yourself in a video game. I never thought about what it'd be like having your game streamed to everyone in the world as you give 5 runs in 2/3 of an inning and have to pull yourself. That happened to Blake Snell last night in his game against Joey Gallo in the brand new MLB the Show league featuring 30 big leaguers. That's a tough look, but at least credit to Snell for finding it him to make the call.
To Blake's defense, playing on veteran is just dumb. It's basically combining juiced balls with steroids. You combine those two together and pitchers have no shot. At the bare minimum you have to play this league under All-Star difficulty to make it work.
I will say I didn't know if I was going to like this league since the NBA one is unwatchable, but I forgot that baseball players are actually funny and interesting. Blake Snell has an incredible personality and I could watch him stream all night. Just listen to these guys talk about Gallo bunting for a hit then taking Snell 700 feet an at bat later.
I think this league has some promise and can give us something to follow over the next month. This could be the league's way of showcasing their players' personalities to the rest of the public. It took a global pandemic for that to happen but we're finally here.
Oh and just wait for Tommy Kahnle to get going on Monday. I've watched a few of his COD streams with Judge, Wade, and Britton and they're all-time. He just screams at kids after running them over with his truck. No one is a better fit for this league than Tommy. I don't know if the world is ready.
