Dustin Pedroia's New Bigfoot Bat Handle Is Fire
The Red Sox haven’t even played a spring training game yet, and Dustin Pedroia is already in midseason form.
About a week ago, the second baseman arrived in Fort Myers and threatened to break Dan Shaughnessy’s collarbone if he got smart with him. And today, he debuted his brand new Sasquatch bat handle.
Last offseason, Pedroia admitted that he is a believer in Bigfoot’s existence.
“I went up to the Redwoods when I was a kid. My dad wanted to show me when you drive through the Redwood tree and all that stuff, and they had a big, like a [Sasquatch] museum deal. They’ve got photos [of Sasquatch]. They’ve got all kinds of stuff, man, so I’ve been on the search, man. Google some things. This isn’t like a made-up creature that’s like 20 feet tall. This isn’t a movie. This is real life, man. They’re out there.”
While this story actually came out prior to the 2014 season, Pedroia’s fascination with Bigfoot goes back much further. During the Red Sox banner year of 2013, Pedroia turned 30 and his teammates got him a giant Sasquatch cake.
You may remember Pedroia appearing on the Barstool Rundown the week before the Super Bowl, with Pres and Big Cat in the four-time All-Star’s pool, but the original idea was supposed to be for them to go Bigfoot hunting in the woods of Arizona. Although that never happened, Pedroia does have advice for the real Bigfoot hunters on the Animal Planet TV show.
“They’re not going to find him on the show. That’s the problem I have with the show: why are they always going to look at night? It’s OK to go during the day. You might run into something. Stop going at night, guys. Clean it up.”
As much as I’m going to enjoy watching the rest of Pedroia’s baseball career, I think I might enjoy watching his inevitable Bigfoot hunting TV show, after he retires, just a little bit more.
