Conference Tourney Buzzer-Beaters, Missed Open Lay-Ups, And The Shark Tank Recap... It's The Saturday Morning Sports Corner
Mornin! It’s Saturday, which means time to recap all that went on last night in the world of sports. LOT of hoops, a little golf, a little hockey, and the Shark Tank recap to get you all caught up on everything you missed during your Friday night escapades. Lot to cover, no time to dilly dally…

College Hoops
So much goddamn hoops on. Absolutely swimming in college basketball last night. Don’t even know where to start. Let’s go conference by conference.
ACC Semifinals
UNC had a comfortable lead for most of the game, but UVA closed in late. Luckily Marcus Paige was able to come through with a big bucket late
Then Notre Dame spoiled UNC-Duke III by just running the floor the entire first half
I think it’s safe to say everyone who didn’t lose out on a million dollars enjoyed this halftime half-court shot
Big East Semifinals
Providence had Villanova on the ropes for a big upset until this phantom foul call gave Nova the decisive free throws with 3 seconds left
Big Ten Quarterfinals
Purdue first half…
Purdue 2nd half…
Dez Wells swatted Indiana right out of Chicago
Big 12 Semifinals
Most shocking moment of the night was this jabrone from Oklahome flat out missing a layup to send the game to OT
Pac-12 Semifinals
Pac-12 tourney means a heavy dose of Bill Walton, who can indeed confirm that he has been milked. Glad we’ve got that cleared up.
Jordan Bell just crashing Utah’s party while Walton’s rambling about Snoop Dogg
And then Joe Young makes an absolute BOMB of a game-winning three to sink the Utes. MADNESS IS HERE Y’ALL
SEC Quarterfinals
Big congrats to Auburn. They earned the right to run into the buzzsaw that is Kentucky. Big buzzer-beating 3 to send the game into OT against LSU.
Speaking of Kentucky, Coach Cal had one word for Florida
The Others
Ryan Boatright kept the defending champs’ tournament hopes alive with this buzzer beater.
Bubble teams were happy to see Davidson hit this buzzer beater to prevent La Salle’s chances of stealing the A-10’s automatic tournament bid
Buffalo’s Xavier Ford threw down a nasty putback slam.
NBA
With all the college ball on, the NBA lightened its usual full Friday night load, only playing 9 games last night. Scores:
Bulls 91, Hornets 101
Kings 107, 76ers 114
Magic 88, Celtics 95
Heat 92, Raptors 102
Timberwolves 99, Thunder 113
Clippers 99, Mavericks 129
Warriors 103, Nuggets 114
Pistons 99, Blazers 118
Hawks 96, Suns 87
Pretty wild, the Monstars crept into Doc Rivers’ body and stole whatever talent he had left
Kenneth Faried was just plain disrespectful to David Lee last night. NO OOP FOR YOU!
Insult to injury
Pardon me sir, I’ll be taking that
Archie Goodwin didn’t appreciate Dennis Schroder letting him know he just got yammed on
NHL
Even lighter was the NHL action. 5 scores from last night:
Stars 4, Capitals 2
Senators 2, Islanders 1
Oilers 4, Blue Jackets 5 (SO)
Maple Leafs 3, Flames 6
Ducks 2, Wild 1
Some might call this lucky, but I think it’s just the hockey gods rewarding a great zone entry by Derek Roy
Jordan Eberle set up a Nail Yakupov bomb with a nasty through-the-legs helper
Great sauce on this pass by TJ Brodie to set up Sean Monahan for the Flames 2nd shorthanded goal ON THE SAME MAJOR PENALTY
PGA Tour
The Florida swing continues with the Valspar Championship at the Copperhead course at Innisbrook Resort. Not a top-flight field this week, but still plenty of big names out there, most notably Adam Scott who missed the cut at +3. Conditions were ideal on Thursday, whereas heavy winds caused some higher scores on Friday. Brendon de Jonge of Zimbabwe leads the way after breaking 70 on both days, with a collection of guys right on his heels. Jordan Spieth’s been on the verge of breaking through and winning a tournament for months it seems, so he’s my pick to finish the job… mostly because this is the first time in weeks I haven’t bet on him. I’ll leave you with the leaderboard through 2 days and let Trent crush the highlights with his recap on Monday morning (great stuff from last week here)
Shark Tank
First up in the Tank was an entrepreneur with a mail order meat business who was actually on in season 4, but came away with no deal. Does this look like a pair you’d buy top round and prime rib from?
I know I would and Cuban agreed with me, sneaking in late and scooping a deal out from under Robert and Kevin. Classic Cubes.
Next up was the highlight of the show… this guy right here
I was shocked to see the Sharks jump out of their chairs trying to bid on this business. One of the few times I’ve seen the Sharks bid higher than the original asking price. I really don’t get it, but apparently this guy has created a sport called gloving or some shit? With world championships and everything? Had to do some research, so here’s what I found. The 2013 International Gloving Championship Finals. Absurd.
Apparently that’s a budding industry worth tens of millions of dollars. Cuban and Daymond bid $650k for 5% and Cuban’s gonna put it all over his halftime shows at Mavs games. Go figure.
After that we had some sort of mini-safe that you could lock valuables in and clamp onto things like pool chairs, golf charts, etc.
It was a pretty unspectacular pitch, but Daymond scooped it up anyway.
Finishing up was this bitch from Silicon Valley who wouldn’t stop bragging about her MBA
You’d never guess it from that picture, but she was condescending as fuck and Mr. Wonderful put her in her place. Excellent stuff.
And that’ll do it for this week. Take it away Bar Rafaeli!
