Holy Shit, 5-Star Makur Maker Makes History And Commits To Howard In The Middle Of The Night To Help Make The 'HBCU Movement Real'
Uhh holy shit, talk about an all-time middle of the night move. Makur Maker is a 5-star, MASSIVE recruit. He chose Howard over UCLA and Kentucky - and everyone had predicted he'd end up at UCLA. Instead he said he wants to help change the HBCU movement and inspire guys like Mikey Williams to make the same decision.
That's not only awesome but it's massive. I blogged about Mikey Williams - a top recruit in the class of 2023 yesterday:
Now there is a chance that Makur can still declare for the NBA Draft. He's technically eligible and that's now the debate. But it doesn't matter. The fact he even committed to Howard and an HBCU is a massive story. Guys like Makur don't typically even consider an HBCU let alone commit to one. But we're seeing a change in that sort of viewpoint. Joshua Christopher (committed to Arizona State) visited Howard. Mikey Williams is talking about going to an HBCU.
Makur Maker is the cousin of Thon Maker and yeah, you might say he's pretty good. The dude is legit 7'0", has handles and can play in different schemes. He's obviously the biggest name to commit to an HBCU. Howard might be the most known HBCU, playing in the MEAC. Either way this is a massive and awesome story. Remember, I talked yesterday about how we're seeing guys go different paths - the biggest names aren't all going to Kentucky, Duke and Kansas anymore. We're seeing more at Georgia, Washington, Gonzaga, fill in the blank of the 'non-traditional' blueblood program. And now we can add Howard:
