The Dalai Lama (Yes That One) Released His First Studio Album This Weekend And It Actually Doesn't Suck

REUTERS - The Dalai Lama made a bid for music chart stardom on Monday, his 85th birthday, with the release of an album of mantras and teachings.

“Inner World” kicks off with the track “One Of My Favourite Prayers” and continues with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader reciting meditations and sayings with accompanying music.

The record came about when musician Junelle Kunin, a student of the Dalai Lama from New Zealand, contacted him in 2015 with the idea - and much to her surprise he said yes.

On a promotional video for the album, when asked why he had agreed to take part, the Dalai Lama answers: “The very purpose of my life is to serve as much as I can.”

I know a lot of you think Dalai Lama and you think Big Hitter. Real long off the tee and capable of bestowing total consciousness on even the lowest of common men. A guy who, objectively speaking, can get tee-to-green with the best of them including the questionably sensitive but unquestionably powerful Bryson DeRoChambeau. It's Lama one, Bryson two right now but always Lama one.

Well what if I told you that other than being India's most notable refugee and arguably the most peaceful man on the planet, that His Holiness also just released a complete album of his favorite prayers? Does that move the needle or do you want to debate his inherent advantages of routinely playing at an elevation of 10,000 feet (3048 meters). Find another +8 handicap that can go platinum with such hits like Ama La (eat. Anoushka Shankar) and Purification after dusting the 187th annual Dalai Lama Open. The crazy thing is you can't because there's only one and he demands your respect.

Alternatively this is probably a cool thing to listen to under the right hallucinogens and by "right hallucinogens" I mean the kind of shit you find in the Amazon river basin that the Silicon Valley types micro-dose before "sex." I'm not advocating anyone does that I'm just saying if there's another dimension out there you have to imagine the Dalai Lama mantra tapes can get you there.

PS - Speaking of other dimensions, if you understand the end of Interstellar, please explain in the comment section below. I watched that one over the weekend and still can't figure it out. Great concept just a little wanky at the end about the bookshelf NO SPOILERS
