JuJu Smith-Schuster Tells Pardon My Take About the Time He Went Trick-or-Treating As… Himself

On today's Pardon My Take, Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter welcomed on Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. The USC product hopped on the show to discuss the upcoming season, Mike Tomlin, and other Steelers shenanigans. If you know about JuJu, you've probably seen that he has a great personality and seems like a fun person to be around off the field as well. One of the stories comes from Halloween in 2018, when he dressed up in full uniform to go trick-or-treating:

Mr. Cat: So, one thing I love about you is you seem to be like a guy who doesn't take life too seriously and you do little things that are always very funny. You went trick or treating as yourself in full uniform. That's a hilarious move. How long did it take for people to realize, like, wait, that's JuJu. Like he's wearing his full uniform.

JuJu Smith-Schuster: For a while, man. I went down to a neighborhood where there were a lot of kids, and obviously, when you're going out, you're wearing a Steelers uniform. I wore the whole, legit Steelers uniform, so people were like, "OMG, it's JuJu, but is it really JuJu?" Because I have a visor on and they can't really see my face. I took it off and they're like, "OMG, it's really JuJu!" So, it's just my personality, my life. I feel like we have a lot of NFL guys, who are pro athletes, who legit just focus on our own sports, which is totally fine, I have nothing against that. I think that if you love football, if you love golf, hockey, basketball, whatever it may be, that's all you. But like you said [earlier in the interview], LeBron, he's more than an athlete.

JuJu Smith-Schuster: Those are a few guys who are just like out there who just like show more of your personality. And, you know, with football players, it's so hard to do that when you have a helmet on. So outside of football, you know, I live my life to the fullest. I make YouTube videos. I do things that, you know, I can't be doing. I do collabs with other YouTubers, I do stuff for other Instagram people. But at the end of the day, you know, I do love football. And that's one thing I always get shit for. Like, "Does he really love football, does he really care about football?" But at the end of the day, I'm just a human being, too. And I love what I do. I love football, I love my teammates. I love to play football. But at the end of the day, I want to be, you know, JuJu, myself, because when football is done, what am I going to have?

Mr. Cat: Yeah.

Mr. Commenter: Yeah, it's more than possible for somebody to play in the NFL, excel at the sport, and to have a personality off the field, too. I think we're starting to see that more and more.

Obviously, this story is nearly two years old, but it was cool to see what went into his side of things. You see doppelgänger's of athletes and celebrities all the time, but the kids in neighborhoods around Pittsburgh had to feel all kinds of emotions on this night. We need more people like JuJu around the league.
