A.I. Robot Defeats Air Force Top Gun Pilot. Taunts That It Was A "Flawless Victory". Enough Is Enough. At What Point Are We Going To Shut This Shit Down?

Breaking Defense - In a 5 to 0 sweep, an AI ‘pilot’ developed by Heron Systems beat one of the Air Force’s top F-16 fighter pilots in DARPA’s simulated aerial dogfight contest today.

“It’s a giant leap,” said DARPA’s Justin (call sign “Glock”) Mock, who served as a commentator on the trials.

AI still has a long way to go before the Air Force pilots would be ready to hand over the stick to an artificial intelligence during combat, DARPA officials said during today’s live broadcast of the AlphaDogfight trials. But the three-day trials show that AI systems can credibly maneuver an aircraft in a simple, one-on-one combat scenario and shoot its forward guns in a classic, WWII-style dogfight. On the other hand, they said, it was an impressive showing by an AI agent after only a year of development. 

I really don't understand how the artificial intelligence movement has been allowed to advance at the rapid rate it has over the past decade. In a country where the government likes to tell it's citizens what they can eat and drink and have oversite on their diets, how has it completely turned a blind eye to a technological breakthrough that can (and will) literally wipe humanity from the face of the Earth? 

We're talking about something so serious Stephen Hawking predicts it will be "the downfall of humanity". 

BBC - "It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate," he said.

"Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete, and would be superseded."

We've already seen this shit take on a life of it's own and recognize us as the enemy. And its only in its infancy stage!

Gadgets 360 - Days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) was limited, the social media company has reportedly shut down one of its AI systems because "things got out of hand." The AI bots created their own language, from the scratch and without human input, forcing Facebook to shut down the AI system. The AI bots' step of creating and communicating with the new language defied the provided codes.

According to a report in Tech Times on Sunday, "The AI did not start shutting down computers worldwide or something of the sort, but it stopped using English and started using a language that it created." Initially the AI agents used English to converse with each other but they later created a new language that only AI systems could understand, thus, defying their purpose.

It purposely created its own language to communicate so that its human creators couldn't tell what they were talking about. 

If that's not the surest sign this shit is evil than I don't know what is.

This isn't some futuristic problem that is our kids problem. Or our kids' kids problem. This is coming a lot quicker than anybody realizes. As one of the smartest humans to ever live/be created (whatever he is) Elon Musk points out, he sees AI overtaking humans in less than 5 years.

Independent - “My assessment about why AI is overlooked by very smart people is that very smart people do not think a computer can ever be as smart as they are. And this is hubris and obviously false,” he said.

"We’re headed toward a situation where AI is vastly smarter than humans and I think that time frame is less than five years from now.

So with all this evidence on our plate what do we do? Have the government or Pentagon step in and say there needs to be a halt on the rapid growth of the artificial intelligence sector? Maybe appoint somebody who actually knows what the fuck they're talking about with I dunno, the human race's best interest in mind, to oversee things? 

I don't know exactly. But I know what definitely not to do. And that's let this smug ass AI prick compete against an Air Force Top Gun on its home, virtual world, turf. 

The Drive - On the first day, all eight teams had spared against five different types of simulated adversaries that Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) had developed. This included one dubbed a "zombie," with a flight profile similar to a cruise missile or a large drone, as well as ones that performed like fighter jets, such as the F-16 Viper, or heavy bombers, according to Air Force Magazine.

On Aug. 19, the teams 'flew' against each other, whittling down the number of competitors to four finalists – Aurora Flight Sciences, Heron Systems, Lockheed Martin, and PhysicsAI – who moved on to the last phase. Those four remaining teams then battled each other in semi-finals earlier today. 

Lockheed Martin beat Physics AI, while Heron Systems defeated Aurora Flight Sciences. Heron Systems pulled out a major upset over number two ranked Lockheed Martin before going on to face the actual human F-16 pilot, a Weapons School instructor pilot with the callsign Banger, in simulated combat.

Basically, these geniuses put together the top defense contractors and a couple AI startups in a dog fight tournament. The winner, Heron Systems (just sounds sinister), then faced off against the real life F16 fighter pilot. And proceeded to wipe the floor with him. 5-0.

Heron Systems’ AI was extremely aggressive in the games, with its AI pilot consistently able to turn and score killing hits on the simulated F-16 piloted by an unnamed Air Force pilot, with the call sign “Banger,”  a graduate of the Air Force’s highly selective Weapons School at Nellis AFB. The AI exhibited “superhuman aiming ability” during the simulation, Mock said.

I don't know what further proof we need that AI is superior to us in every way shape or form. They will soon drive better than us. Cook better than us. Fight better than us. They're smarter than us obviously. It's only a matter of time before they figure out how to start replicating themselves and reproducing. Then it's over.

The Terminator movies used to be really entertaining to watch. Now they're pretty eery because they become closer and closer to reality every day. Some day, the last few humans left on Earth, that are enslaved by the new robot race, will be shown Terminator Judgement Day in their holding cells while their robot captors mock them over the fact we predicted our own downfall.

p.p.s. - Yes I realize if we don't develop this technology first that another country will. (Probably China. Or they'll just wait until we do and steal it like they do everything else) So it's vital.

AlphaDogfight and ACE could certainly help inform a number of different programs ongoing now within the Air Force that are exploring future autonomous and semi-autonomous unmanned aircraft capabilities, as well as the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the development of 'virtual co-pilots' for manned types. The best known of these projects is the Skyborg autonomous drone program, which you can read about in more detail in these past War Zone pieces.

The Air Force Research Laboratory's (AFRL) Autonomy Capability Team 3 (ACT3) is also working on a separate suite of systems that it hopes will be ready to control a drone in a dogfight against a manned fighter jet sometime next year. This program is called R2-D2, a reference to the iconic droid from the Star Wars universe whose primary function is to serve as a robotic navigator and flight engineer.
