Last Night Eric Church Crushed Johnny Cash's "Ragged Old Flag" While Getting Hosed On Entertainer Of The Year.
MEAWW - Billed as Country Music's Party of the Year, the ACM Awards are an annual celebration of the brightest stars and most awe-inspiring achievements within the genre. Eric Church turned out to be one of the most talked-about singers as many fans felt he deserved the Entertainer of the Year award. Riding high on the success of his single 'Stick that in Your Country Song', the singer came on stage to pay a tribute to Johnny Cash's 'Ragged Old Flag'.
The lyrics of the song go:
"So we raise her up every morning
We take her down every night
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold her up right
On second thought, I do like to brag
'Cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag."No sooner did he sing it, the Internet erupted with joy and showered compliments on him for paying a tribute to the National Flag.
Church looked dapper in his trendy avatar. He was also prepped with a mask on the red carpet of the awards show due to the ongoing pandemic. The talented vocalist had scooped two nominations at the coveted award show. He competed in the Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year categories but unfortunately could not take an award home this time.
The big award was tied between Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett. A lot of fans then took to Twitter to share their disappointment and anger.

Crushed it.
I'm not ever going to pretend I know Country Music better than somebody else. Or at all. But I know good music.
And I know a little bit, and a little bit about Eric Church thanks to an education from a friend that's obsessed with him and being lucky enough to play a couple of ACM after-parties and other events.
Church was a heavy favorite, once again, to win "Entertainer of The Year" last night.
1- he's never won.
2- he toured his ass off this past year. Hitting city after city after city on back to back to back nights. No stops. 3 hour shows. No openers.
3- The other song he played, "Stick That In Your Country Song", his own, is arguably the song of the year. Written himself, it's a kind of a nice fuck-you to the establishment. So it's kind of ironic that he got to play it before being robbed of the big award again later in the night. It might have been more ironic had he actually won.
But Church has always embraced the role of "the outsider". So this will without a doubt just light an even hotter fire under his ass.
The guy moved to Nashville with the dream to be a songwriter, something he's clearly incredible at. Not a singer.
When he was taken down the performer route he had zero intention of being a front man. There were even discussions if he was cut out to be a front man.
Now he's one of the most recognized and successful names in the business. "Entertainer of The Year" winner or not.
