Is Neil deGrasse Tyson An Anti-Football Guy? The Astrophysicist Discusses on Pardon My Take

To send you into the weekend of a LOADED sports slate, Pardon My Take welcomed on a great duo of guests. There's Andy Staples of The Athletic to talk college football, and then there's the one and the only Neil deGrasse Tyson. The astrophysicist hopped on with Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter to discuss space, science, and how he is smarter than all of us (by a wide margin). Mr. Cat also put on his investigative journalist hat and dug up an old tweet of Neil deGrasse Tyson, which led him to believe: is he an anti-football guy?

Mr. Cat: I have a tweet that I wanted to bring up, because you kind of do have a problem with football, and I have a problem with you. You said, "Sometimes I wonder if we'd have flying cars by now had civilization spent a little less brain energy contemplating Football."

Neil deGrasse Tyson: (laughing) You found that tweet?!

Mr. Cat: Yeah, I did.

Neil deGrasse Tyson: Wait, back up. In all fairness to me, there's 50 other tweets celebrating football. You're not listening right now.

Mr. Cat: Yeah, that's fair, but listen, I'm aware of this. I'm aware I've filled my brain with completely trivial things that mean nothing, and could probably be used in a better way. But that's why we have people like you. It's actually your fault for watching football. We're the football watchers, you shouldn't be watching it. You should be figuring out the world.

Neil deGrasse Tyson: You're saying, "Tyson, get back to work!"

Mr. Cat: Yes! Figure out all of the world's problems for us.

I love that Mr. Cat is treating this issue like some of us would treat group projects in school. Some folks like to sit back and let one or two people do the dirty work, while everyone benefits when you receive your final grade. This entire interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson was awesome. Safe to say he is one of the smartest guests we have ever had on Pardon My Take.
