JJ's Brunch Recommendations - East Side

brunchKevin is on vacation and Spags said I could do whatever I want so I’m running with it.

Here’s the deal, nobody and I mean nobody loves brunch more than I do. Brunch is the perfect meal because you can find literally anything you want on some brunch menu, somewhere in New York. Eggs? No problem. Burger? No problem. Fancy flatbread pizza that probably taste like communion wafers and ketchup? No problem. On top of that you can pile on unlimited booze at a lot of places for about $15, which makes Boozy Brunch the greatest thing man ever created. It may make me basic but it also makes me drunk.

Since every week a few people ask me for brunch recommendations, I figured I would give some of my top spots in NYC for all you can drink brunch.

Upper East Side

Maya – Tapas style all you can eats brunch with unlimited brunch cocktails is a great deal for $43. This place is perfect if you have a group of 6 or more hung over people who need a bunch of food the get them back to even and a ton of drinks to get them past even.

East End – This is one of my favorite bars in the city because it’s a party for people in their late 20’s- early 30’s. The brunch menu isn’t huge or their specialty but if you want a burger or sandwich and to get really drunk for under $40, this is the place. During football season they also will let you extend the drinking beyond the 2 hours while you watch games.

Midtown

PS 450 – They don’t take reservations so it’s a crapshoot to get in, but worth it. $40 gets you some awesome food and 2 hours of brunch drinks. There is a great atmosphere with, good hip hop/pop music from now and the 90’s playing and generally a whole crowd of people looking to get drunk. The best part about this place is that they bring you bottles of champagne to make your own mimosas, so you can control your own drinking pace without waiting long and feel like a baller with a table full of $7 bottles.

Lower East Side/Village

Fonda – For about $30 you get a good meal and 1.5 hours of drinking. While most places are 2 hours, the staff here really pushes more drinks on you at the end and will gladly give you another round at the bar so it all ends up being the same in the end. On top of that they include beer in the offer, and that’s always a big plus for me to mix in a beer and break up the sugar of the brunch drinks.

Libation – Everyone thinks of Libation as a douchey night club and guess what it can be a douchey brunch spot too, but sometimes that’s what you are looking for. Surprisingly, the food is some of the best brunch food I have had and the drinks are strong. I have done a few private brunches there of 40+ people and they have always taken great care of us with a custom menu so if you are looking to do a college reunion and hump your ex, this is the place.

So there are 5 spots on the east side, and if people like this I’ll do the west side soon. If you have places I should try give me a shout on Twitter and check out my podcast where I talk about things to do in the city a bunch.
