Weekend Music Dump. All The Music From The Past Week, Playlists, And Much Much More.

Feedback from last week's post was great so running it back again this week. Again, if there's anything you'd like to see or think would make this better let me know.

To kick things off here's this Weekend's Featured Playlist - Newer Hip Hop Volume 2

Also here's my "New New" playlist updated with fresh tracks

- Tony Lewis, lead singer of The Outfield passed away. R.I.P.

- My girl Miley announced her new album's name and release date, officially. Titled Plastic Dolls it will drop on November 27th.

She's claiming it's heavily influenced by Metallica, Britney Spears, And my dreams came true as she announced there will be a track featuring a collaboration between her and Dua Lipa.

- A-list stars will come together for the Every Vote Counts: a Celebration of Democracy event. The special will air on CBS on Oct. 29, and the lineup is pretty fuckin legit. Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington and America Ferrera are set to host the event, with Keys also scheduled to perform. Additional performers include Shawn Mendes, Dan + Shay and Offset, while Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, Cobie Smulders, Coldplay, Condoleezza Rice, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, John Kasich, Kelly Clarkson, Leonardo DiCaprio and more will make appearances.

POP

- Bieber and Chance killed it on SNL performing "Holy" (a song that was kind of cringe at first but has now grown on me a lot).

He also performed "Lonely"

- Ariana Grande dropped a new single " Positions"

- Adele is hosting SNL tonight and teasing her new album.

- Whitney passed one billion streams on youtube for "I Will Always Love You" today

- Elton John is getting his own Barbie doll

ROCK

- The Boss released his first new album in years, Letter To You, along with an accompanying documentary on AppleTV+. The documentary features interviews with Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl and is must watch.

Springsteen released two singles, “Letter to You” and “Ghosts” leading up to the release. The lyrics have led fans to speculate that The Boss was referring to the coronavirus pandemic but he's shot those down. ("Ghosts" is the standout track on the album)

- I blogged earlier, The Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness turned 25 today.

Thanks to commenter @lemiwinks20 I just got put onto this mashup album

- Foo Fighters dropped a new EP called Live On the Radio 1996.

Live On the Radio 1996 was recorded 24 years ago for a segment on the radio show ROCKLINE by producer Scott Weiss — who coincidentally became a digital audio producer at Amazon Music years later. After recently rediscovering the long-forgotten recordings, Weiss worked with Bob Coburn and the rest of the ROCKLINE crew to prepare the special audio for re-release.

The EP features acoustic renditions of “For All The Cows” from Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut, “Up In Arms” from their then-unreleased 1997 album The Colour and the Shape, and the non-album cut “How I Miss You”. It also includes a never-before-released version of “Wattershed” where Dave Grohl swaps the lyrics for a story about a trip to Canada, all sung in the style of the B-52s frontman Fred Schneider.

- Peter Frampton, yes Peter Frampton, dropped a new song. "Four Day Creep"

- Sir Paul McCartney announced a new album-

Paul McCartney will return on December 11th with McCartney III. The self-titled album arrives on the 50th anniversary of the former Beatles’ first solo album; like both McCartney I and its 1980 follow-up McCartney II, McCartney III is solo album in every sense, self-produced and recorded solely by McCartney, who plays every instrument.

“Paul hadn’t planned to release an album in 2020, but in the isolation of ‘Rockdown,’ he soon found himself fleshing out some existing musical sketches and creating even more new ones,” a press release explains. “Before long an eclectic collection of spontaneous songs would become McCartney III: a stripped back, self-produced and, quite literally, solo work marking the opening of a new decade, in the tradition of 1970’s McCartney and 1980’s McCartney II.”

- Gorillaz Unveil New Guest-Heavy Project Song Machine: Season 1 — Strange Timez

Not quite an album or mixtape, the effort is more a compilation of tracks their ongoing audiovisual Song Machine series. There’s an 11-track regular version and a 17-song deluxe edition, and between the two, Gorillaz recruited a cumulative total of 24 (!) different collaborators. Elton John, The Cure’s Robert Smith, Beck, St. Vincent, Peter Hook, ScHoolboy Q, JPEGMAFIA, and slowthai are just a few of the most exciting names on the list. EarthGang, Tony Allen, Georgia, Skepta, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra also appear.

- Pearl Jam FINALLY made their MTV Unplugged album available on streaming services -

EDM

- Skrillex dropped a new track "Kliptown Empyrean"

The song was produced and released the same day, (which is ridiculous) according to an Instagram post from the producer, who says he’s in the midst of “finishing this main body of work” and wanted to share a loose track for fans in the meantime.

RAP

- An unreleased freestyle debuted from Notorious B.I.G. in the form of a Pepsi commercial -

- Pop Smoke took back the #1 spot on Billboard with Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon

After three months, Pop Smoke’s posthumous album returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a second week. The set rose 3-1 and earned 67,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 15 (down 1 percent), according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. And as Billboard’s Keith Caulfield points out, Shoot for the Stars is the second album in 2020 to have such a lengthy wait between weeks at No. 1, following Lil Baby’s My Turn (also around three months).

- Kanye dropped another new trash single "Nah Nah Nah"

The teaser of “NAH NAH NAH” was released in celebration of what turned out to be fake presidential numbers, but Kanye West opted to release the full track anyway. Produced by Ye and Dem Jointz, the track hears the controversial figure touch on his problematic presidential candidacy, legal battle with his label and concerns about the media. The single also arrives with a cover art created by contemporary American artist Wes Lang, who assisted in visuals during the Yeezus area.

- 24kGoldn and Iann Dior's “Mood” was #1 on the charts this week.

- Black Thought Performed “Quiet Trip” and “Nature of the Beast” with Portugal The Man on Jimmy Fallon

- Ty Dolla Sign released his new album Featuring Ty Dolla Sign as well as a new single featuring Post Malone titled "Spicy"

Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Ty said that he was super stoked to have Post on the track, but that actually getting him to send in his verse was a bit of an ordeal:

“I was kind of impatient just because we started on this song, me and him, definitely sometime last year. And I’m like, ‘Yo, finish your fucking verse. Finish your verse. Send it, send it, send it.’ ‘All right, I’m going to send it. All right, next week. All right, I got it on Monday. All right. All right. All right. All right. All right…’ All those. To where I’m like, damn, I don’t want to make it seem like I’m going too hard on you. So, Sal, my manager, hit this f-king Dre for me, man.”

- Worcester's Joyner Lucas dropped a new album, Evolution

- Up and coming rapper Wave Chapelle dropped a new album Waves Don't Die

- As Reags documented earlier this week, Jack Harlow dropped a new track titled "Tyler Herro" for some reason.

- New Nas track from the "The Forty Year Old Version" soundtrack -

Country Corner

- Jeff Walker, singer of "Mr. Bojangles" passed way from throat cancer

- Chris Stapleton dropped a new single titled “Arkansas”. He wrote it after a road trip through the state. He wrote it with The Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell. Album comes out Nov 13.

- Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood covered "Shallow"

- The Cadillac Three released a surprise new album ‘Tabasco & Sweet Tea’. The title track is pretty catchy. They immediately started writing the album after finishing their previous album that was going down a different path/sound towards the end.

- Dierks Bentley released a new single, “Gone”. It's a radio hit.

- Nelly and Florida Georgia Line teamed up again for a new record, “Lil Bit”

- Chris Weaver Band released a new single “Other Side of the Ground” with zero coverage from label or industry media. Just an announcement of the new single from his socials. Lyrics/hook are an interesting twist on regret. (Self-described as southern rock-soul-country blues… def not mainstream country. Worked with producer Josh Leo from Alabama, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Bad Company, Skynyrd fame - on his sophomore album.

h/t Augie

- Dolly Parton made Colbert cry singing "Bury Me Beneath The Willow"
