Kirk Herbstreit Is Under Fire For Saying Michigan Is Going To "Wave The White Flag" And Avoid Playing Ohio State

Agreed. Kirk Herbstreit, I agree with you. KIRK WAS RIGHT! And everyone is thinking it.....including coaches across the country......but he's just the guy with the balls big enough to say it on national television. The fact of the matter is that if Ohio State doesn't play both of their remaining two games, they won't be eligible to participate in the Big Ten Championship game. There's no wiggle room at all. And it doesn't matter if it's Ohio State or their opponent that cancels the game, the result remains the same: no championship game. So while I would consider the covid issues in Columbus to be a problem right now, I KNOW Ohio State is doing everything in their power to find ways to play. We are playing without Ryan Day on Saturday. We'd play without Justin Field too if we had to. But Michigan? I'm not sure they're itching to come back from this:

Michigan has zero consequences for not playing us next Saturday. In fact, they will likely get a 50 point ass whooping by their rival for the millionth straight year and continue to be the laughing stock of college football. But if they don't play? Ohio State will lose the Big Ten title and it becomes a very real possibility that they won't make the playoff. Uhhhh, this is a no brainer if I'm Michigan? If you can't beat them, cancel on them and watch them cry.

I really don't think it was too hot of a take, but apparently the Internet disagreed and within an hour they had Herbie on Twitter issuing an apology:

Okay. Thanks Kirk. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. If I was making a million bucks I'd have gone on the internet and made a fake apology too. Apologize and move on. End of story. But that's not how it works once the white knights of the internet get involved….

Oh my goodness. Give me a break. No one is playing down the virus or wishing anyone to get sick, but even if Michigan has 30 players out, they have a hundred more to play the game. Ohio State would play with 22 total on Saturday if they have to. The stakes are too high for the Buckeyes right now. So it's not ridiculous to think that Michigan would consider sitting out of a butt whooping to ruin their rivals season.

Oh, and about 20 minutes from now, I apologize for this take.
