Regular Movie Theaters Might Be Dead, But Did You Know You Can Rent One Out For $99?

Just read the news about Warner Brothers releasing their entire 2021 slate on HBOMax. Absolutely devastating. I'm not sure how many of us are out there in New York, but going to the movies (especially alone) is one of the BEST rainy day activities of all time. If you know you know, if you don't I'm sorry. This news comes coincidentally 1 day after I learned that AMC Theaters is offering a deal where you're allowed to rent out a movie theater for birthdays/events:

Did everyone know about this?? What a fucking steal. Grabbing 20 of your friends and forcing them to watch your favorite movie sounds like an AWESOME time. Sure, you'll have to wear masks and probably not sit next to each other and blah blah blah but who cares. I would pay a pretty heavily inflated price to go sit in the theater with my popcorn and peanut M&Ms, and you're telling me I can do it for barely 5 bucks and all my friends? Where has the PR team been on this one?

That of course leaves the question - what movie would you choose? I assume you have the full library at your disposal. You've got to pick something visually stunning with booming sound… a real "movie" movie. I think you have no choice but to go action/horror with this. Maybe Bladerunner 2049? Perhaps Parasite, 2019 style? Do we go all the way back to Fast 5? The other day I watched the movie "Run" on Hulu with Sarah Paulson and that would've been GREAT in theaters. Lots to think about.

I think the best movie I've ever seen in theaters was Get Out. It had just been released, and for some reason I knew absolutely nothing about it. The theater was packed, not in an annoying way, but when the big twist came along the place went crazy. We had been sneaking whiskey into the theater obviously so that could be why I had so much fun. I'm sure the popular answer here would be some kind of Avengers/Star Wars movie, but I'm a sucker for jump scenes in a pitch black room, senses heightened.

That's it, that's all I've got to say. I just miss the movies a lot.
