The NHL Is At Risk Of Losing Its Best Player This Year If They Don't Let Gritty Go To Games

The NHL returns to the ice on January 13th. The players, the coaches, the officials. Each team will have a taxi squad of 4-6 players in case they need to make any quick replacements in the lineup. Each team will also be forced to carry 3 goalies at all times. But the immediate future of one position still seems to be up in the air--mascots.

And the league leader in tomfoolery ain't too pleased about it.

Now you might be wondering how much power Gritty actually wields here. What type of leverage could he possibly have over Gary Bettman to make him give into his list of demands? And outside of some implied threats of violence, I'd say that Gritty doesn't have a ton of leverage here on his own. But that's where The Best One comes in. That's where Kevin P. Hayes and the P stands for "Pretty sure this guy is better than Gretzky" really puts the pressure on old Gary.

Is the NHL really going to risk losing its top player all because they don't want to let some guy in a giant orange costume go to Flyers games this year? For sure not. I know that Hayes says this is a big decision for the NHL to make, but I don't see how it's even a decision at all. It's the easiest choice of all time. You let that greasy fuck Gritty into games and you make sure The Best One is on the ice for 56 games this season. The schedule has already been shortened,  they can't afford to lose this guy for any more games.
