The GameStop Book And Movie Are Already In The Works From The Guy Behind "21" And "Social Network"

Deadline - Following one of the craziest weeks in Wall Street history, Hollywood already has its sights set on the wild story with a familiar face looking to tell it. Sources tell Deadline that following a competitive situation, MGM has acquired the book proposal The Antisocial Network from New York Times best-selling author Ben Mezrich, which tells one of the biggest news stories of the year, about a ragtag group of amateur investors, gamers, and internet trolls who brought Wall Street to its knees. Even though the story is barely a week old, insiders say Mezrich and his reps took the proposal on the market at the end of the week and by Friday night MGM had moved fast to acquire the rights.

Mezrich has written more than 20 books, with well over six million copies sold. His books including Bringing Down The House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Sho Took Vegas For Millions , which spent sixty-three weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was adapted for the screen with the film 21. The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding Of Facebook, a Tale Of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal spent eighteen weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and appeared on hit bestseller lists in over a dozen countries. Mezrich and Aaron Sorkin share a Scripter Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film adaptation The Social Network.

Well this was inevitable from day 1, the GameStop/WallStreetBets saga is going to be made into a movie. It's so much of an inevitability that MGM has already bought the rights to the book which hasn't even been written yet. In fact, the saga isn't even over yet. I mean shit, AMC is up 20% in pre-market as I'm writing this. There's still a long way to go. GameStop, an otherwise close to bankrupt company, is still trading above 300. Nobody knows how this ends. But that didn't stop MGM from buying the movie rights, because they know however it ends, the story is too good to pass up.

Now here's the question- does Dave make it into the movie? I think yes, 100%. If he's not played by a character in the movie, they at least use one of his Twitter rants or emergency press conferences. Quote this blog when the movie comes out, there will be a funky montage scene where it shows how word spread on social media, and the boss will be included. 

The other question on everyone's mind is that title…it stinks. "Antisocial Network"? Mehhhh. That's all that is, a big mehhhh. I personally like the name "Stopping The Game". Nice little play on words there. 

And meanwhile, all the Wall Street old fucks are still crying. They can't believe their once-exclusive club has been infiltrated.
