Honest Post Game Interviews About Dominating Opponents Need To Be Applauded Not Condemned

Last night Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas absolutely demolished his opponent Giles Simon in the 1st round of the Australian Open. It was an absolute demolition job by the tournament's 5th overall seed: 6-1 6-2 6-1. Simon is 36 years old and had virtually no chance against one of the best young stars in the game today. The scoreline represented that assessment. The match was over in just an hour and a half.

After the match Tsitsipas was interviewed on court by Jim Courier who is fantastic at these types of conversations. Dude just knows how to get the most out of these players and entertain the masses. All Jim needed to do was ask the 22 year old if he was surprised at the score line and Stefanos took it from there. No PR team to save him, no guide line for how to answer it and appease everyone. Tsitsipas decided to ignore any politically correct line of answering and went with the honest truth. Basically said yeah I fucking routed that guy, you see that? He plays tennis? Professional tennis? Guy got smoked. What he win, four games? I forgot this was a real match for a second. Didn't even know the match was over until he walked to center court and went to shake my hand. What the hell was that?

This is the kind of interview we need moving forward. More of this in every sport! 22 year olds who don't know better, just nonchalantly crushing the souls of their opponents. Incredible. He just kept digging deeper and deeper no matter how he phrased his answer it got no better. Gimme a break with the crowd too. Who the hell do you people think you are? We're appalled at honesty these days? You want everyone to act Iike a politician after every performance? "Yeah I thought Giles was tough today, regardless of the score. Really made me think out there to pull off the W." Stop it. The media shoves a mic in front of these guys no less than three minutes after they're done playing and expects them to act like professionals every time. I prefer honesty. Authenticity. Throw sportsmanship out the window. Had enough of that crap my whole life. Just be truthful. "Yeah I expected that dude to put up some kind of fight out there and he instead stunk up the joint. I slaughtered him. Sue me!"

Love how the second half of the interview Stefanos was just doing his best to please the fans and tell them how awesome they are. Complete lip service in hopes they forget how "insulted" they were at honesty just a few minutes prior. Gotta please everyone these days or they try and cancel you. Get outta here with that.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a weird cat no doubt, just glance over at his YouTube channel, but that dude can play some tennis. He's my dark horse to win this whole tournament.
