Magic Johnson's Mid-Season MVP Race Has Been Released And This Year We Only Have FOURTEEN Candidates

God I love Magic on Twitter. Everything he says is a hot sports take but without any heat. He's never technically wrong but at the same time he's never really right. How right can you be when you name the entire All-Star roster to your MVP race. The real shock is that he cut the list to 14 this year and two tiers. Actually the biggest shock is him waiting until February to drop this. Typically we get a list the first week of the season and we've seen lists of 16 and 19 people. That's what we call progress here. That's Magic though. He plays by his own rules on Twitter and is a top-2 follow with Dick Vitale when he's talking about the Bucs.

I love the thought of Magic sitting here tiering the entire NBA. Just going to the Barstool Sportsbook - Magic is a Michigan guy at heart - and looking at the current odds. Cutting tier 2 off there then starting tier 3 with Devin Booker. Just going all the way down to Dennis Smith Jr in tier 30. But Magic is too positive for that. There may not be a more positive guy on Twitter than Magic, it's actually a little disgusting how he refuses to say anything bad. Even when he's talking about the college hoops world he finds it shocking not bad.

He doesn't stop at MVP's either. He's impressed by a bunch of rookies too:

So there you have it. Roughly 25 games into the 72-game season we have 14 candidates for MVP despite LeBron being the favorite at +275 and Joel at +500 on Barstool Sportsbook. Hot take Magic doesn't care about numbers like that though. It's all about tiers and pretty much if you're an All-Star you're alive in the race. Who cares if some of these guys won't make All-NBA, that's just the Magic way. Now I can't wait to see his list of teams that can win a title. I'm assuming that will be around 12 or so. I still love his AP box score tweets, but the yearly MVP race is up there.
